Public Safety Telecommunicator Supervisor
STARTING SALARY: $32.54 - $35.79 per hour

POSITION: Public Safety Telecommunicator Supervisor

POSITION NO: 4.245

DEPT: Police

This is responsible supervisory work in the 9-1-1 Communications Unit. Responsibilities include supervising and assisting Communications Officers with police/fire communications and performing various administrative tasks. Employee must be able to adjust his/her work hours, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Considerable knowledge and skill in operating radio receiving and transmitting equipment.

Considerable knowledge and skill in operating a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.

Considerable knowledge of the City’s geographical area.

Considerable knowledge of Florida Crime Information Center and National Crime Information Center (FCIC/NCIC) computer equipment policies, procedures, and governing statutes.

Considerable knowledge of state and federal laws and ordinances governing police and fire communications.

Ability to learn the Police and Fire Department’s rules and regulations.

Knowledge of modern police and fire communication methods and procedures and Enhanced 9-1-1 (E9-1-1) equipment and procedures.

Ability to instruct others in equipment use and operational procedures.

Ability to assign, instruct, and review the Communications Officers’ work.

Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office.

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; understand and follow complex instructions.

Ability to prepare reports clearly and concisely; perform mathematical calculations.

Ability to lift, carry, pull, push, and maneuver materials weighing up to 50 pounds.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and courteously address fellow employees and the public.

Training, Certification, and Experience

High School Diploma or GED.

Minimum five years experience in a Communications Call Center.

Supervisory experience preferred.

Alternate FCIC Agency Coordinator (Alt-FAC) and Local Agency Security Officer (LASO) experience preferred.

Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicle (DHSMV) Point of Contact (POC) experience preferred.

Training Officer experience preferred.

Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) Certification.

Florida Crime Information Center and National Crime Information Center (FCIC/NCIC) certifications.

9-1-1 Public Safety Telecommunicator Certification in accordance with Florida Statutes, FSS 401.465.

Or, an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Special Requirements

Possess Emergency Medical Dispatch Quality Assurance (EMD-Q) Certification, or obtain certification within six months of employment.

Copies of required certification(s) must be submitted with the application.

The City of Temple Terrace is a drug‑free workplace.
