Diesel Preventative Maintenance Technician (Heavy Equipment)

General Summary
Sunrock is hiring a
Diesel Preventative Maintenance Technician
to support the upkeep and reliability of heavy equipment across multiple locations. This role focuses on performing routine preventative maintenance on diesel-powered equipment, ensuring safe operation and minimizing downtime.
This position is ideal for candidates with
mechanical aptitude, diesel experience, or heavy equipment maintenance experience
who are looking to grow within a stable and expanding company.
The role requires working in an industrial environment with flexibility to support
overnight shifts, overtime, and weekend work
as needed.
Work Schedule
Shift:
4:00 PM - 6:00 AM
Average Work Week:
Approximately 60 hours (based on current workload)
Note:
Schedule is currently in place due to operational backlog and is subject to change
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform preventative maintenance on diesel and heavy equipment
Conduct inspections using checklists to ensure equipment is safe and operational
Check and maintain fluid levels, lubricate components, and replace minor parts
Perform basic tire checks and brake inspections; escalate larger repairs
Clean, inspect, and service equipment and vehicles
Document maintenance work and report equipment issues
Operate a service vehicle and travel to job sites as needed
Maintain accurate records of labor, parts, and service activities
Assist mechanics and support shop or field maintenance operations
Maintain a clean and safe work environment
Follow all MSHA, OSHA, and company safety standards
Perform other duties as assigned
Required Skills and Abilities
Mechanical aptitude with diesel or heavy equipment
Basic knowledge of preventative maintenance practices
Ability to safely use tools and equipment
Ability to follow instructions, checklists, and safety procedures
Strong attention to detail and problem awareness
Basic computer skills for reporting and documentation
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
Education and/or Experience
High School Diploma or GED required
6 months to 2+ years of experience in diesel, fleet, or heavy equipment maintenance preferred
Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Valid North Carolina Driver's License required
CDL preferred, but not required
