Posting is for an Engineer I position that will serve as an Assistant District Engineer for the Aberdeen District 2 Office including Hoke, Lee, Moore, Richmond, and Scotland Counties. Position will supervise lower-level Technicians; coordinate reviews of technical plans and drawings related to driveway permit applications, utility encroachment requests, subdivision design standards, road additions, purchase order contracts; research right of way (deeds and plats); and other duties as assigned by the District Engineer. Considerable knowledge of the principals and practices of civil engineering and highway maintenance and construction methods, techniques, and the use and operation of field and office engineering instruments is needed in this position. Successful applicant should possess working knowledge of standard road maintenance and construction procedures. Ability to read and interpret construction plans, provisions, specifications, policies, procedures, and regulations is needed. Ability to plan, organize, and schedule highway maintenance operations is needed. Ability to make independent decisions is needed for this position. The successful applicant must be able to communicate effectively with co-workers, departmental personnel, contractors, developers; local, state, and public officials, and the general public. Ability to understand, explain, and administer project assignments is needed in this position. Position requires excellent organizational and time-management skills to ensure permits, agreements, and projects are completed accurately and in a timely manner. Must be able to legally operate a state vehicle. Position requires working nights and weekends as needed for emergency and planned operations in all types of weather conditions and on uneven surfaces and slopes. Safety toe footwear required.**Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences**Salary Grade and Salary Range:

$57,983 - $101,470**Management prefers applicants with the following:*** Computer experience including office software and drafting software* Experience applying engineering concepts to solve basic engineering problems* Knowledge of engineering standards, policies and procedures related to transportation* Experience in customer service related to resolving problems that involves explaining complicated engineering concepts to various customer groups* Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision**Minimum Education and Experience**Some state job postings say you can qualify by an “equivalent combination of education and experience.” If that language appears below, then you may qualify through EITHER years of education OR years of directly related experience, OR a combination of both.
