Position Purpose
Student employees in the Fashion Design & Retail Merchandising program serve as professional representatives of the program while supporting the daily operations of the boutique, studio, lab, and alterations services. This role provides hands‑on experience in retail operations, garment construction and alterations, and studio management. Under the supervision of the Program Manager, student employees help maintain safe, clean, and organized workspaces while delivering excellent customer service and supporting student and community engagement within the program.
Duties and Responsibilities
Monitor designated Open Lab hours, including workshops and preview days, ensuring all activity is supervised for the full duration.
Open and close lab access areas, ensuring all spaces are clean, swept, stocked, safe, and fully operational.
Verify safety authorization for individuals using the Sewing Lab.
Replenish and distribute machine necessities and supplies (thread, needles, tools, and materials) as directed.
Run and monitor FDRM Boutique operations during open hours.
Maintain Fashion Studio and Lab spaces, including JL363 studio and lab, JL363A, Resource Room, Supply Room, and JL361 lab.
Support and monitor the HC Alterations venture, including:
Providing email, phone, and in‑person communication
Delivering strong customer service
Processing orders and sales through POS systems and online invoicing
Organizing and distributing alterations based on deadlines, skill level, and customer needs
Performing sewing, steaming, mending, and alterations as assigned
Track and maintain supplies, marketing materials, and packaging inventory.
Ensure all workspaces remain professional, organized, and welcoming.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Manager.
Qualifications – Education, Experience, and Skills
Must be currently enrolled as a Hocking College student for the Fall semester.
Must meet federal requirements for Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
Must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.
Interest or experience in fashion design, retail merchandising, or related field preferred.
Basic knowledge of sewing, garment care, and alterations preferred.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Customer service experience preferred.
Ability to maintain professionalism in all interactions.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Ability to manage time effectively and handle multiple responsibilities.
