Position Summary
Henderson Building Solutions is hiring a Safety Coordinator to support mission‑critical projects in Washington, D.C. The Safety Coordinator assists in the implementation and execution of safety programs across assigned HBS projects, maintains compliance with safety standards, conducts inspections, and supports safety initiatives. The role works closely with Safety Managers and Safety Specialists to coordinate jobsite monitoring, training, and documentation, reinforcing safe work practices and a strong safety culture across project teams.
Key Role Responsibilities
Assists in the implementation of safety programs, policies, and procedures on assigned projects
Supports jobsite safety audits, inspections, and hazard identification activities
Monitors jobsites for compliance with safety standards and reports findings to safety leadership
Assists in maintaining accurate safety documentation, including reports, logs, and inspection records
Supports enforcement of personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements
Works closely with Safety Specialists and Managers to identify and communicate potential safety concerns
Observes jobsite activities and escalates unsafe conditions or behaviors
Assists with coordination of safety‑related activities on jobsites
Supports safety planning efforts by gathering information and assisting with implementation
Training & Safety Culture
Assists in coordinating and facilitating safety orientations and training sessions
Reinforces safety awareness by promoting safe work practices among field personnel
Encourages open communication of safety concerns and supports a positive safety culture
Participates in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and project kickoff activities
Assists in gathering information and documentation related to safety incidents
Supports preparation of incident reports and safety documentation
Helps track safety metrics and ensures timely and accurate reporting
Role Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, construction management, or related field required.
Experience
Minimum 2+ years of safety experience required, preferably in the construction industry
Experience supporting safety audits, inspections, or reporting preferred
Familiarity with construction process and jobsite environment preferred
OSHA10 or OSHA30 certification required, or ability to obtain within a defined timeframe
Basic understanding of construction safety practices and regulations
Ability to identify hazards and follow established safety procedures
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Ability to follow direction and work collaboratively in a field environment
Work performed in a variety of environments, including office settings and active construction jobsites
Frequently moves about construction sites to inspect work areas, identify hazards, and ensure compliance with safety standards
Occasionally ascends/descends ladders and traverses uneven terrain on jobsites
Positions self to conduct inspections, including bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching
Operates a computer and other office equipment for documentation, reporting, and communication
Frequently communicates with employees, contractors, and leadership to exchange information and provide safety guidance
Must be able to detect, identify, and assess potential safety hazards in varying environments
May move or transport safety equipment and materials as needed on jobsites
Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions
Ability to travel between job sites; occasional overnight travel may be required
Valid driver’s license required
