UNC Health Care Hillsborough Campus is a community hospital that is an extension of UNC Medical Center, focusing on elective surgical programs. The 163‑bed facility combines a community‑hospital culture with the innovative procedures and care for which UNC Medical Center is known. The Hillsborough Hospital achieved accreditation by The Joint Commission for its Total Hip and Knee Replacement service, was designated Dementia Friendly in 2019, received the Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence Award for Patient Experience, and ranks in the top five percent in the nation. The 2nd‑Floor Family Medicine Unit is a 20‑bed inpatient unit that cares for a varied patient population, primarily family‑medicine patients, but also observation, extended recovery from PACU, and other medical‑surgical patients. As part of the team you will help facilitate admissions, treatments, transfers, and discharges.

Summary: The Clinical Nurse III practices at a level of competent to expert practitioner of nursing, as defined by Benner, P. (1984). The nurse at this level demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex problems and exhibits clinical leadership through contributions to standards of care and unit goals. The Clinical Nurse III serves as a role model for other staff, a preceptor for new employees, and participates in endeavors to increase nursing knowledge.
Responsibilities
Assessment – Synthesizes data from complex situations to determine priorities for care, including physical, psychosocial, and educational needs. Anticipates discharge needs, develops relationships with families to promote advocacy.
Education – Identifies and meets learning needs of self and others, develops and presents staff education programs, and utilizes patient education materials.
Evaluation – Evaluates patient progress, revises plans accordingly, and maintains accountability for plan implementation.
Implementation – Applies expertise in caring for patients with complex problems, performs bedside point‑of‑care testing, provides direction in implementation, and serves as a resource to other staff.
Leadership – Develops goals to promote professional growth, facilitates intra/inter‑departmental collaboration, serves as a consultant in nursing processes, promotes cost‑effective care, provides feedback, and maintains a safe, clean environment.
Planning – Collaborates with patients/families to prepare or update the plan of care, utilizes multidisciplinary resources, communicates effectively, addresses cultural and ethnic issues, and prioritizes tasks for complex patients.
Research – Reviews applicable journals, discusses feasibility with others, applies research findings, shares ideas, and assists in data collection for research conducted in the work area.

Education Requirements
Graduation from a state‑accredited school of professional nursing.
If hired after January 6, 2014, must be enrolled in an accredited program within four years of employment and obtain a Bachelor’s degree with a major in Nursing or a Master’s degree with a major in Nursing within seven years of employment date.
Licensure/Certification Requirements
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
For positions at magnet hospitals, professional certification relevant to the practice area and on the ANCC Magnet approved list is required within the probationary period of employment.
Professional Experience Requirements
One (1) year of nursing experience.
