SUBSTITUTE SCHOOL NURSE
To provide health related services to students at assigned school(s) and assist with providing instruction for teachers and staff concerning various medical conditions and needs of students.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Licensing: Licensed Practical Nurse
Proficient skills: Written and oral communication, planning, organization
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
Be accessible to students and staff when questions or concerns occur.
Assist in hearing, vision, dental, and nutrition screenings and perform follow-up as needed.
Administer medication to students.
Coordinate with the County School Nurse to participate in kindergarten registration.
If assigned to a middle school, assist County School Nurse in the scoliosis screening of middle school students.
Assist County School Nurse in coordinating health fairs for students and/or faculty as requested.
Assist County School Nurse in providing appropriate training to teachers and staff in universal precautions, medical conditions, and delegated medical procedures.
Maintain records and reports for all students who have a health related condition and provide assistance to students and/or parents as needed.
Maintain a daily clinic log of student visits.
Ensure that all schools use proper forms, permission slips, and schedules for dispensing medication.
Assist County School Nurse in the annual review of immunization records for all students in prekindergarten, kindergarten, and sixth grades.
Perform other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.
