Strong Azure-focused Data Engineering experience (Data Lakes, ADF, Synapse/Fabric), advanced SQL, data warehousing, ETL/integration (Talend/Informatica), API/streaming, data quality/governance, and Power BI with security (Entra/Purview/RLS).
Overview
The Data Engineer III designs, builds, and supports modern data platform solutions that enable analytics, forecasting, and business intelligence across the organization. This role translates complex analytical and business requirements into scalable data systems using both on-premise and cloud technologies. The engineer will lead solution design, ensure data quality and governance, and support enterprise-wide data initiatives in a hybrid work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Perform technical planning, system integration, verification/validation, and risk and supportability analyses for complex analytics challenges.
Lead the design and build of analytic solutions across all project phases (concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and data archive).
Convert customer requirements into solution roadmaps that account for technical constraints, data quality, business processes, schedules, and costs.
Conduct functional analysis, requirements allocation, timeline analysis, and interface definition to translate business needs into analytic solution specifications.
Define and manage metadata strategy, change data capture, extract strategy, data cleansing, data security strategy, technical standards, and performance/usage metrics.
Work with data governance teams to ensure data quality, integrity, and compliance with required standards (e.g., HIPAA, CJIS).
Document solutions, mentor team members, and provide training to stakeholders on data technologies and solutions.
Manage problem and request tickets and ensure availability of supported technologies.
Maintain strong relationships with stakeholder departments to ensure solutions support end-user business objectives.
Domestic U.S. travel may be required.
Required Skills & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business, or Engineering.
7+ years of progressive data engineering or modern data platform experience.
3+ years writing SQL.
Extensive experience building and delivering data warehouse/data lake solutions using:
Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse
Azure Data Lake
Azure Data Factory
Microsoft Fabric / Synapse Analytics
Power BI
Experience with API integration, real-time streaming, and message brokering.
2+ years leading technology-based data projects in production environments.
Strong understanding of relational databases, data structures, and relational/dimensional modeling.
Experience with ETL/data integration tools such as Talend and Informatica.
Experience with data quality initiatives (delta tables, data scrubbing, data prep).
Familiarity with security tools including Entra, Purview, and RLS in Power BI.
Strong communication skills with the ability to engage senior leaders.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Python or SAS Viya.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Background in Data Engineering or Data Architecture (5+ years).
Must have strong experience with Azure, APIs, SQL, and Data Lakes.
Nice-to-have experience with Python, Microsoft Fabric, and SAS.
Must reside within 50 miles of Nashville for the required hybrid schedule.
Curious, proactive, analytical, detail-oriented.
Strong communication skills and ability to work with senior leadership.
