Description
AI & Data Platforms (AiDP) is IS&T’s engine for AI-powered innovation. The team brings together data, application development, and machine learning — including generative AI — along with data services and customer success functions, to help IS&T build solutions more efficiently and streamline the adoption and embedding of generative AI across Apple.
As a Sr Engineering Manager on the Applied Machine Learning team, you will lead a team of software engineers building tools and platform at scale that powers Apple's enterprise GenAI efforts. You’ll be responsible for the technical execution and delivery of GenAI platform with distributed compute, storage, ingestion and inference. You’ll be working with the team of software engineers and machine learning engineers to build RAG and Agentic platform components. If you have a deep understanding for distributed systems, generative AI, strong engineering background and leadership experience, then this role may be a great one for you! In this role you will lead and mentor forward‑thinking engineers and will own related activities and interactions with teams across Apple. You will work cross‑functionally with key internal partners, researchers, product teams, and platform engineers for roadmap development and delivery of our products.
Responsibilities
Actively manage performance of the team reporting to you and take responsibility to drive its outcome.
Build scalable GenAI platform and applications.
Ensure products meet Apple's standards for performance, reliability, scalability, privacy, and user experience.
Guide development of APIs and frameworks for agentic workflows and/or complex multi‑step ML systems.
Collaborate optimally with partner/product teams to set the goals, expectations, and roadmaps for their teams.
Communicate technical details and roadmaps for diverse audiences including engineering partners, product management teams, and executives across Apple.
Minimum Qualifications
10+ years of experience working on distributed system.
6+ years of experience in management or leadership role.
Deep understanding of GenAI fundamentals.
Deep understanding of Java, C, C++ or similar programming language.
Deep understanding of distributed system like flink, spark, NoSql etc.
Bachelor\'s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
Track record of leading teams and delivering complex AI projects from conception to production.
Understanding of LLM inference and deployment.
Understanding of RAG and Agentic systems.
Past experience leading a scalable platform team.
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. The base pay range for this role is between $198,300 and $342,800, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
