
Information Technology Specialist

Job Summary
This position will manage and maintain the city’s information systems and provide technical assistance and maintenance support for all PC's, laptops, printers, business applications, mobile devices and other office equipment. This position will work under general supervision and receive work direction from the Information Technology Administrator. This position will be required to work some nights and weekends.
Essential Job Duties / Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions may include the following. Must possess required knowledge skills, abilities and experience and to be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations that the essential functions of the job can be performed. Other related duties may be assigned.
Reports directly to IT Administrator.
Serves as backup/proxy when IT Administrator is not available.
Provides exceptional customer service to all departments.
Provides technical support to end-users by responding to service requests regarding hardware and software malfunctions.
When necessary, communicates with vendor technical support team members to resolve advanced hardware/software issues.
Maintains records of activities via Helpdesk request management application.
Installs and troubleshoots hardware, software, and operating systems.
Prepares and configures workstations which includes formatting and loading operating systems.
Assists with the creation, capture and maintenance of Operating System images for deployment in order to reduce future workstation configuration time.
Participate in the planning, design and implementation of new equipment/system/product/service roll-outs and projects.
Provide technical maintenance support for the City's printers, desk phones, mobile devices, meeting room AV equipment, network issues, and other IT-related equipment.
Assists in the completion of a Knowledge Base for solutions to common issues.
Participates in after-hours on-call rotation with other IT staff.
Respond to informational requests from internal and external sources at the direction of the IT Administrator.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Excellent understanding of Microsoft Windows desktop operating systems, Microsoft Office Suites and basic understanding of Microsoft Active Directory.
Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite: Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint.
Good understanding of computer networking, troubleshooting, and network printing.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or GED equivalent; associate’s degree or coursework in related field preferred, and
Two (2) years' of recent experience with troubleshooting and set up of PC's, laptops, mobile devices, and printers, including experience in providing office support to users of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications, and
Any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Licenses and Certifications
Texas Class “C" driver’s license
NIMS, TLETS, and/or other specialized certifications may be required
Applicable information technology certifications are desirable
Work Environment / Physical Requirements
May be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents and workspace restrictions.
May regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
