Summary: The Financial Clearance Supervisor is responsible for providing daily leadership, training, mentoring and support to the Financial Clearance Department. Supervises patient flow through the referral, scheduling, and financial clearance process. Responsible to ensure timely claim flow and reimbursement through the revenue cycle. This position oversees the efforts of assigned staff with a key focus on accuracy, timeliness, quality, and customer service. This position communicates and interacts successfully with individuals at all levels within the organization, including external customers of the department.

Responsibilities:

Supervises the day-to-day operations of the Financial Clearance Department focusing on insurance eligibility, benefits, referral and authorization requirements, and patient liability estimates. Requires an understanding of coding, procedural protocols, and the charge description master.

Establishes and maintains effective leadership within span of control through effective recruitment, timely performance assessment and feedback, performance management, professional development, mentoring, and succession planning.

Ability to establish key goals, drive and track results among multiple decision-makers and stakeholders and meet deadlines in a fast-moving environment.

Promotes a culture of high performance and continuous improvement. Displays a results oriented mentality. Consistently motivates team members and resolves conflicts. Confidently makes decisions in the best interest of the department and Nuvance Health.

Provides and coordinates necessary training/ retraining to new hires and/or current staff, to ensure efficient and productive work teams. Educates teams on changing payer guidelines.

Monitors Corporate Compliance and Quality Improvement policies and procedures by data collection audits and addresses deficiencies to promote a safe and efficient working environment.

Works collaboratively with internal departments, i.e., Physicians, Patient Access, SBO, Centralized and De-centralized scheduling etc. and external organizations to facilitate excellent patient service.

Complies with and enforces all organizational, department and affiliate policies to ensure compliance with all applicable law and regulation.

Proactively works on denial prevention, appeal, and revenue recovery.

Demonstrates regular, reliable and predictable attendance.

Performs other duties as required.

Education Skills Experience

Minimum of 3-5 years in health care experience.

Minimum of 2 years' experience in a supervisory role or displayed leadership capacity.

Bachelor’s degree and relevant experience required.

NAHAM certification, required within 1 year of hire.

Excellent communication skills

Knowledge of medical terminology.

Strong computer and writing skills.

Strong time management, multitasking ability, communication skills, and the ability to handle challenges and stressful situations with patience and composure
