AI/ML Research Engineer Sr - Orlando, FL
Lockheed Martin, Orlando, FL, United States
You will be the
AI/ML Research Engineer Sr
for the Autonomy & Artificial Intelligence (A/AI) team. Our team creates cutting‑edge machine‑learning and computer‑vision solutions that enable safe, mission‑critical capabilities for LockheedMartin Missiles and Fire Control.
What You Will Be Doing
As the AI/ML Research Engineer Sr you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and validating advanced AI/ML algorithms that solve complex perception challenges.
Design, implement, and test deep‑learning object‑detection and classification pipelines, including image‑processing and data‑augmentation techniques for missile and fire‑control products.
Develop, verify, and validate complex models and simulations that leverage convolutional neural networks, transformers, generative AI, and related techniques.
Deploy and integrate AI/ML algorithms to CPUs, GPUs, and edge devices, ensuring performance meets system‑level requirements.
Evaluate system performance in realistic scenarios, conduct HWIL (Hardware‑In‑The‑Loop) testing, and support ground‑and flight‑test activities.
Support program reviews, technical‑interchange meetings, and customer engagements by presenting results and recommending mitigations.
Basic Qualifications
Candidate must have a Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, applied mathematics, or related field.
2+ years of experience in embedded systems, edge computing, or AI deployment.
Strong proficiency in deep learning frameworks
(PyTorch, TensorFlow, ONNX) .
Experience deploying neural networks on embedded/edge devices.
Must have the ability to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance; therefore must be a U.S. Citizen.
Desired Skills
Familiarity with at least one of the target platforms (NVIDIA Jetson, AMD Versal, Intel edge AI).
Proficiency in Python and C++ for model deployment and optimization.
Understanding of neural network architectures and their computational requirements.
Knowledge of model optimization techniques (quantization, pruning, knowledge distillation).
Knowledge of hardware acceleration techniques (CUDA, OpenCL, Vulkan).
Familiarity with AMD Xilinx tools (Vitis AI) and FPGA programming.
Experience with TensorRT, OpenVINO, or other inference optimization frameworks.
Background in computer vision, signal processing, or other application domains.
Experience with containerization and edge deployment workflows (Docker, edge orchestration).
Understanding of power and thermal management in edge devices.
Problem‑solving mindset with attention to real‑world deployment challenges.
Self‑motivated with ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Security Clearance Statement: This position requires a government security clearance; you must be a U.S. Citizen for consideration. Clearance Level: Secret with Investigation or CV date within 5 years.
Lockheed Martin is an equal opportunity employer. Qualified candidates will be considered without regard to legally protected characteristics.
Location: Orlando.
