
Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - General Surgery

Job Description
The Mayo Clinic Health System Mankato General Surgery/Trauma Department is hiring for a Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner. The current practice consists of 5 General Surgeons covering trauma, bariatric, and colorectal specialties and 5 NP/PA’s. Due to relocation, the practice seeks to replace a PA/NP to maintain practice standards.
Primary job responsibilities include patient evaluations (consultations and post‑surgical care), functioning as a first assist in the operating room, and acute management of patients during level‑red trauma activations. Additional duties comprise ordering, conducting, and interpreting diagnostic tests; formulating diagnostic impressions; developing and implementing treatment plans; monitoring effectiveness of interventions; prescribing pharmacological and non‑pharmacological therapies. The role involves operative first assist, inpatient management, and ambulatory care patient responsibilities.
Qualifications
Nurse Practitioner:
Masters‑prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program. Current MN RN and APRN license with certification as an FNP or ACNP.
Physician Assistant:
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA with the MN State Board of Medical Practice.
Additional Qualifications:
2 years’ experience preferred; new graduates may be considered. Previous first assist experience preferred.
Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required at start date.
