Cloud Platform Engineer
We are looking for a Cloud Platform Engineer with experience in AWS cloud technology, programming skills in Python or Go, and a strong Linux foundation. The role involves developing custom software components, integrating open‑source code, and leveraging cutting‑edge Big Data/Cloud solutions. The ideal candidate works autonomously to identify and solve problems quickly while aligning with strategic goals set by team architects. Work is performed in a hybrid environment with a great team.
Responsibilities
Strong systems integrator with an eye for enhancing, optimizing, or improving robustness of existing code base
Experience with infrastructure as code to define, build, and manage virtual infrastructure in the cloud
Design and implement core architecture and capabilities for software, from prototype to operational applications
Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Five or more years of platform engineering or software development experience (Python or Go).
A bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an alternative combination: three years of experience with a master’s degree, or high school diploma with nine years of experience.
Experience with OS deployment and orchestration (kickstart, ansible, puppet, etc.)
Experience deploying and managing Kubernetes (or vendor flavor)
Experience with container build tooling and Kubernetes automation tools (Helm, Kustomize, Flux CD, etc.)
Programming skills in Python or Go
Solid understanding of Linux systems, hosts, networks, security, applications, and proficiency in shell scripting (Shell/Bash)
Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex issues
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Willingness to travel to San Antonio, TX an average of 3‑4 days every three months
Ability to work in a hybrid environment, 1‑2 days per week in Columbia, MD, and flexibility for schedule changes
Preferred Qualifications
Current Secret or TS/SCI level clearance preferred
Experience with OS and container hardening (STIGs, CIS benchmarks, PCI compliance, etc.)
Experience developing and deploying AWS infrastructure
Experience writing automation in CI/CD pipelines (GitLab‑CI, Travis‑CI, Jenkins, etc.)
Understanding of agile software development methodologies and use of standard tooling (JIRA, Confluence, GitHub, GitLab, etc.)
Prior experience with DISA’s Big Data Platform or other big data systems (Cloudera, MapR, Databricks, Spark, etc.)
DoD 8140 / 8570 IAT Level II compliance certifications (may be required)

Partial telework is allowed. A current U.S. Government Security clearance is not required at start, but will be processed for a Secret level clearance; U.S. citizenship is required. This position will travel to San Antonio, TX an average of 3‑4 days every three months and requires a hybrid presence 1‑2 days per week at our Columbia, MD office.
