Therapeutic Medical Physicist

Pay:
$85.00 per hour
Hours:
Consulting position, about 72 hours per year
Contract:
1 base year with four 1‑year option periods
Eligibility:
Open to all candidates, including locum or traveling professionals
Requirements
Authorization to work in the U.S. permanently, without sponsorship
Master's degree or higher in physics, science, or engineering
2+ years of experience in hospital medical physics
Board Certified (American Board of Radiology, American Board of Medical Physics, or American Board of Health Physics) or Board Eligible with required documentation (ABR Part 1 exam, CAMPE‑accredited residency, current employment as a medical physicist)
Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Previous experience with the VA is a plus
Responsibilities
Provide quality control surveys and certifications for radiographic equipment and serve as Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) and Magnetic Resonance Safety Expert (MRSE)
Review and analyze radiation exposure records throughout NAVAHCS, providing recommendations to reduce exposure to ALARA and reporting results within 15 working days
Perform radiation safety inspections on all imaging equipment and provide final reports within 15 days of completion
Provide consultation for additional services such as safety training
Review CT protocol optimization once a year
Provide shielding design calculations for each new or replacement X‑ray imaging system, conforming to NCRP reports, and document in written reports with diagrams
Establish a skin dose program
Annually review the radiation safety program and evaluate technical QA/QC programs for various modalities
