Electrical Engineer II – Relay
– An exempt position responsible for engineering activities in substation relaying and metering design, NERC compliance, operations reviews, event analysis, communication equipment configuration and system protection under moderate supervision.
Key Responsibilities
Generate accurate Substation Relaying and Metering designs, including drawings, specifications, and material lists.
Perform relay settings calculations, coordination studies, and fault analysis.
Prepare and review relay settings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation.
Support commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of protective relaying equipment.
Analyze system disturbances and outages and recommend corrective actions.
Coordinate with operations, engineering, and field personnel on relay-related projects.
Ensure compliance with NERC, IEEE, and applicable industry standards.
Provide technical guidance and support to engineers and technicians.
Assist with system planning, upgrades, and protection & control capital projects.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil Engineering or a related field.
3–5 years of experience in protective relaying or power system engineering.
Working knowledge of:
Protective relays and relay coordination principles.
Fault analysis and power system protection methods.
SEL, GE, ABB, Siemens, or similar relay platforms.
One-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain one (preferred).
Experience with transmission and distribution systems, SCADA, and NERC compliance (preferred).
