TITLE:

Principal, Mount Tabor Elementary School

CLASSIFICATION:

Administration (Salaried-Exempt)

CONTRACT DAYS:

210 Days/Year

REPORTS TO:

Assistant Superintendent For ElemenaryEducation/Title I

INTERVIEWS TO BE HELD:

May 7 - 8, 2026 and May 13-15, 2026

ANTICIPATED START DATE:

Early to Mid July, 2026

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a valid Building Level Administrator License; and

have a minimum of five (5) years successful teaching experience and three (3) years of administrative experience;

have demonstrated superior ability to work with peers, supervisory staff, parents and students;

have recognized and demonstrated good teaching-learning classroom environment;

possess characteristics which represent a positive public relations image;

have a positive understanding of the educational needs of the middle school age child;

have the ability to make the school facility an attractive, pleasant, and productive place for working and learning;

have an understanding of the total middle school curriculum;

have demonstrated leadership qualities; and

have an understanding of Title I

Responsibilities

Supervises Professional and Support Staff assigned to school.

Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.

Identifies, initiates, designs, and implements programs to meet specific needs of the school.

Makes recommendations concerning the school’s administration and instruction.

Prepares and/or assists in the preparation and management of the school budget and school finances.

Supervises the maintenance of all required building records and reports.

Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork.

Works with various members of the central administrative staff on school problems of more than in‑school issues, such as transportation and special services.

Keeps superintendent or appropriate central office administrator informed of events and activities of an unusual nature as well as routine matters related to that administrator’s accountability.

Enforces laws, regulations, Student Guide, Board Policy manual, and other school policies.

Maintains positive relationships with students and parents.

Assists in the development, determination of appropriateness, and monitoring of the instructional programs and district initiatives.

Develops a schoolwide master schedule with established guidelines to meet student needs.

Assists in the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum.

Supervises the guidance program to enhance individual student education and development.

Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, according to due process rights of students.

Assist in establishing guides/expectations for proper student conduct and maintaining student discipline.

Attends special events held to recognize student achievement, and attends school-sponsored activities, functions, and athletic events.

Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of students.

Assumes responsibility for his or her own professional growth and development.

Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession.

Supervises all professional, paraprofessional, administrative, and support personnel attached to the school.

Assists in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, mentoring, and evaluation of the school’s personnel.

Approves the master schedule and any special assignments.

Orients newly assigned staff members and assists in their development, as appropriate.

Evaluates and counsels all staff members regarding their individual and group performance.

Conducts meetings of the staff as necessary for the proper functioning of the school.

Assists in the in‑service orientation and training of teachers, with special responsibility for staff administrative procedures and instructions.

Recommends, according to established procedures, the dismissal or reassignment of a teacher whose work is unsatisfactory.

Attends special conferences between parents and teachers, when appropriate.

Assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plant.

Supervises the daily use of the school facilities for both academic and nonacademic purposes.

Plans and supervises fire drills, tornado drills, school safety drills and an emergency preparedness program.

Asserts leadership in times of civil disobedience in school in accordance with established Board Policy.

Aligns building personnel’s goals and priorities with the mission and belief statement of the School Corporation’s Strategic Plan.

Provides for adequate inventories of school property and for the security and accountability for that property.

Supervises and evaluates the school’s extracurricular programs.

Participates in principals’ meetings and such other meetings as required or appropriate.

Serves as an ex officio member of all committees and councils within the school.

Responds to written and oral requests for information.

Assumes responsibility for all official school correspondence and news releases.

Acts as liaison between the school and the community.

Serves as a member of such committees and attends such meetings as directed by the superintendent.

Principals have the authority to delegate one or more of their responsibilities to appropriate personnel but remain responsible for the results produced.

Performs other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent and/or other designee.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation.
