Software Development Specialist 1
Location: William Green Building, 30 West Spring Street, Columbus, OH 43215-2256

Salary: $33.52 - $49.18 per hour

Schedule: Full-time, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Primary Skill: Software Development/Implementation

Primary Technology: Microsoft .Net Environment

Responsibilities

Develop and modify computer application programs, perform testing and debugging, and support analysis and design activities.

Maintain and enhance .NET applications for bwc.ohio.gov and internal business applications (e.g., ASP.NET, HTML) accessed via the Hub.

Perform application testing and debugging, including comparing program performance to specifications and verifying test results.

Assist with analysis and design activities by defining and documenting program requirements for BWC business and web applications.

Ensure compliance with software reusability, accessibility standards, and Agile development methodologies.

Utilize report generators, data manipulation tools, data query tools, debugging/tracing tools, and software development/version control tools such as Microsoft Visual Studio, Team Foundation Server, SQL, and Azure DevOps.

Participate in training, seminars, self‑directed learning, and research to acquire new technical skills.

Apply Agile development methods and techniques to support ongoing improvement.

Assist senior developers in creating application‑related training materials and user guides.

Create and update program and application code documentation (e.g., program flow, use cases, workflows, in‑line code comments) in accordance with BWC standards.

Collaborate with senior developers, technical leads, and architects on technical matters.

Perform related duties as assigned, including compiling and submitting weekly summary reports.

Communicate activity updates and the status of problem‑resolution efforts.

Create, monitor, resolve, and update trouble tickets to reflect remediation progress.

Qualifications

36 months combined work experience in developing and/or modifying programs for computer applications, performing testing and debugging, and assisting with analysis and design, including 12 months in the primary technology as specified by the agency position description.

Or completion of an associate core program in computer science or information systems AND 18 months combined work experience in the same areas, including 12 months in the primary technology.

Or completion of an undergraduate core program in computer science or information systems AND 12 months combined work experience with the primary technology.

Or equivalent of minimum class qualifications for employment noted above.
