Assistant/Associate Professor of Statistics
Overview
9-month, tenure-track faculty position in Statistics to begin in August 2026 at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, College of Science and Technology, North Carolina A&T State University. The position is anticipated at the Assistant or Associate Professor level; exceptionally qualified candidates may be considered for Full Professor. Applications from all areas of statistics are encouraged, with preference for expertise in multivariate statistics, nonparametric statistics, computational statistics, survey and experimental design, or the application of statistics and machine learning to education or the social/behavioral sciences. Collaboration across mathematics, sciences, and technology disciplines is strongly encouraged.
Responsibilities
Teach statistics and data science courses at undergraduate and graduate levels
Develop curriculum and new courses; advise and mentor students
Provide service to the university and broader community
Establish and sustain a robust research program in statistics and/or data science
Publish in peer‑reviewed journals; secure external funding
Supervise MS and Ph.D. students in statistics, data science & analytics; mentor undergraduate researchers
Collaborate with colleagues across mathematics, sciences, and technology
Qualifications
Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, or Data Science/Analytics (anticipated date of appointment)
Demonstrated potential for teaching excellence and research productivity; postdoctoral or industrial experience and strong statistical data analysis and programming skills are desirable
For assistant professor: strong potential for research and commitment to teaching, student success; teaching experience a plus
For associate/full professor: established research reputation with success in securing extramural funding, publications, and supervision of graduate students
Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses; willingness to collaborate across disciplines

Remote or hybrid work arrangement may be eligible, consistent with university and state policies
On-site work is required where applicable; NC A&T employees are generally expected to reside in North Carolina within a 2-hour commuting distance of the duty station
