Job Summary
The Department of Public Health Sciences (DPHS) within the College of Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) invites applications for a part‑time Associate Professor of Biostatistics (temporary – research track). The successful candidate will have a prior track record of collaborative activities and excellent written and oral communication skills.
Department Context
DPHS is home to a diverse faculty with appointments in public health specialties including Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, Biomedical Informatics and Data Science, Social and Behavioral Sciences, Epidemiology, and Health Services Research. The department offers master’s and doctoral programs in biostatistics and epidemiology, and three MPH degrees in biostatistics, epidemiology, and health behavior and health promotion. A joint doctoral training program with Clemson University in Biomedical Data Science & Informatics is also available.
Qualifications
PhD in biostatistics, statistics, health economics, or a related field.
Expertise and training in measurement scale evaluation, large electronic health record (EHR) data, structural equation modeling, and Veterans Health data.
Experience using statistical software such as SAS or Stata.
Experience building cohorts from EHR data.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Ability to secure funding to support FTE of the position.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with basic, translational, and/or clinical scientists to develop and conduct biostatistics projects, providing statistical consulting and methodological expertise. Conduct data analyses, develop statistical models, and contribute to manuscript preparation and grant writing.
Physical Requirements
Perform job functions in an upright or seated position. Work in an indoor environment and be able to perform repetitive motions with hands, arms, and legs. Ability to lift and carry up to 15 lbs., and to maintain 20/40 vision, hearing, and olfactory functions. Physical requirements may include occasional walking, stair climbing, and periodic lifting.
