The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) was established in 1891 as the first academic health center in Texas and is a component of the University of Texas System. Today UTMB includes five schools (medicine, nursing, health professions, public and population health, and graduate biomedical sciences), a network of hospitals and clinics that provide a full range of primary and specialized medical care, and numerous research facilities.
The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science (OVS) at UTMB Health is proud of its rich tradition of service, education, and research excellence as one of the first academic groups established in the Southwest. Today we have a robust clinical team of primary eye doctors that provide routine eye care and vision support, as well as subspecialists managing pediatrics, cornea, glaucoma, retina, uveitis, neuro-ophthalmology, and oculoplastic conditions. Annual patient volumes exceed 55,000 and over 3,300 surgeries. The four Eye Centers located throughout Galveston County are equipped with the latest technology to deliver top-notch care.
The Department is seeking a highly motivated Glaucoma Surgeon to join the team to meet the increasing patient care needs in a rapidly growing region in Texas.
Candidate Requirements
M.D. or D.O. from an accredited medical school
Training in an ACGME accredited Ophthalmology Residency Program
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Ophthalmology Surgery
Glaucoma Fellowship Trained
Ability to obtain a valid unrestricted Texas state medical license
Income Package
Salary is commensurate with Academic rank, experience, and qualifications. In addition, UTMB offers a superior benefits package, an excellent retirement program, a relocation allowance, and other potential incentives.
