Optigon is an early-stage hardware startup building advanced characterization and quality‑control tools for clean‑energy and optoelectronic materials. Our tools combine high‑speed optical measurements, automation, and analysis software to help researchers and manufacturers better understand their materials and manufacturing processes.
Optigon’s tools are primarily used in photovoltaic R&D and process development, with a particular focus on emerging thin‑film materials such as perovskites. We recently launched our first commercial product and are now focused on scaling system deployments while expanding measurement capabilities and demonstrating new application areas. We are based at Greentown Labs in Somerville, MA.
About the role
We’re looking for a
Software Engineering Intern
(Summer 2026) to support the design, development, and testing of Optigon’s next generation measurement tools and analysis software. Applicants interested in data science and front end/back end development are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with the engineering team to define technical specifications
Design and develop code across existing and new projects
Participate in design reviews to provide feedback and suggest improvements
Assist in the development of software infrastructure and internal procedures
Deploy software to customers
Document designs, test results, and other relevant information
Contribute to improving internal workflows and processes
Desired Qualifications
Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
Ability to work independently and take ownership in a small team setting
Excellent communication skills and willingness to collaborate across disciplines
Additional Experience (nice to have)
Prior experience with team software development (e.g., version control, code review, agile workflows)
Interest in data science, scientific computing, or instrumentation software
Familiarity with clean energy, materials characterization, or metrology applications
