Position Summary
The Staff Equipment Engineer is responsible for the performance, reliability, and continuous improvement of semiconductor manufacturing equipment. This role leads tool ownership, drives yield and uptime improvements, supports new equipment installations, and provides technical leadership to technicians and junior engineers in a high-volume or advanced-node fab environment.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Ownership & Performance
Own and maintain assigned process equipment.
Drive equipment uptime, MTBF, MTTR, and utilization improvements.
Establish and optimize preventive maintenance (PM) programs.
Lead troubleshooting of complex equipment and process issues.
Manufacturing Support
Provide on-floor engineering support to sustain 24/7 fab operations.
Rapidly respond to tool down, yield excursions, and safety events.
Partner with Process, Yield, and Manufacturing teams to resolve tool-related defects and variability.
Continuous Improvement
Lead root cause and corrective action (RCCA) using 8D, FMEA, SPC, and DOE methodologies.
Implement hardware, software, and procedural improvements to improve tool stability and cost of ownership.
Drive spare parts optimization and maintenance cost reduction.
New Tools & Technology
Lead installation, qualification, and production ramp of new equipment.
Manage vendor interactions, FAT/SAT, and acceptance testing.
Develop tool specifications and support capital equipment selection.
Documentation & Systems
Develop and maintain SOPs, PM procedures, calibration plans, and troubleshooting guides.
Ensure equipment compliance with safety, EHS, and quality systems.
Utilize MES, FDC, SPC, and CMMS systems for equipment monitoring and reporting.
Leadership & Mentorship
Provide technical leadership to equipment technicians and junior engineers.
Support training, certification, and knowledge-transfer programs.
Lead cross-functional projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
10+ years of semiconductor manufacturing equipment engineering experience.
Strong hands‑on experience with semiconductor production tools.
Experience with high-volume manufacturing and 24/7 fab operations.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Engineering or related discipline.
Experience in advanced-node or specialty processes.
Project leadership or capital equipment deployment experience.
Proven ability to troubleshoot complex electro‑mechanical and vacuum systems.
Familiarity with SECS/GEM, FDC, SPC, and reliability engineering methods.
