CO2 Facilities Engineer

To manage facility maintenance projects and small capital projects. Provide technical support in all areas of carbon dioxide (CO2) facilities and to be a technical resource to the company in support of large CO2 capital projects and compliance with regulations and company standards.

This job may be filled as an Engineer, Engineer II, Engineer III or Sr. Engineer, at Management’s discretion (based on experience noted in the Education requirements).

Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities

Create and develop projects for CO2 capture facilities.

Develop project scope documents, manage and report increases and decreases in project scope.

Develop project schedules, cost estimates and budget forecasts as required with minimal direction from supervisor.

Develop Request for Proposal (RFP) bid documents for construction projects and materials, etc., conduct bid process, prepare detailed bid analysis, select successful contractor.

Effectively plan, schedule, manage and report on multiple capital and maintenance projects with various deadlines and responsibility levels. Such projects include new construction, replacement, facility integrity assessments, facility integrity remediation, pressure testing, compression/pumping, automation and controls, measurement, corrosion etc.

Ensure that projects comply with safety, health, and environmental regulations.

Oversee the construction, installation, and commissioning of upgrades to existing CO2 facilities, managing budgets and timelines effectively.

Manage several contractors and consultants simultaneously such as; inspectors, engineering consultants, surveyors, material suppliers, general contractors, Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) contractors, line stopping and hot tapping contractors etc.

Collect, review, organize and publish project and compliance related documentation into project job books that will be audited by regulatory agencies and retained for the life of the asset.

Provide engineering expertise and support to Operations, ensuring successful project completion.

Serve as a field engineer to manage maintenance and troubleshooting on CO2 facilities.

Develop and implement maintenance plans to ensure facilities operate efficiently and effectively.

Assess and enhance the performance and reliability of existing facilities to optimize production and reduce costs.

Completes technical research and provides technical guidance on the maintenance of CO2 facilities.

Provide technical expertise to various internal and external customers.

Provide technical guidance on the application of industry codes and standards as well as, federal regulations governing hazardous liquid pipeline & facility design, construction, operation, and maintenance.

Participate in industry research groups as required.

Deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy, and professionalism.

Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listen carefully.

Regular, dependable work attendance and a fully competent level of performance is expected.

Will work non-traditional hours as needed.

Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public.

Other daily, weekly, monthly, or special project duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Engineering or a related discipline.

Experience/Specific Knowledge:

Manager’s discretion will determine the starting engineering level (I, II, III, or Sr) based on direct work experience. Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets; position will be filled depending on qualifications, experience and skill sets of the successful candidate.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Visio, Project, and Outlook.

Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

Knowledge of the natural gas, oil, or CO2 transmission industry, pipeline/facilities design, construction, operation and testing.

Strong problem-solving skills and a solid understanding of engineering concepts.

Proficiency in basic project management skills.

Familiarity and ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical blueprints and diagrams, including flow charts, cause/effect diagrams, and Piping and Instrument Drawings (P&IDs).

Familiarity with pipeline and facility design calculations and equations as.

Familiarity and ability to read and interpret basic GIS information and maps.

Knowledge of ROW, EHS and regulatory clearances for energy projects.

Must be able to work with a team, take direction from management, adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.

Ability to organize and prioritize work to successfully perform work on simultaneous projects and tasks to meet deadlines.

Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets; position will be filled depending on qualifications, experience and skill sets of the successful candidate.

Physical Demands:

Sitting; standing; walking or moving throughout facility; driving; talking; seeing (specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus); hearing; feeling; bending or stooping; squatting or crouching; reaching; kneeling; pushing; pulling.

Minimal safety hazards; general office working conditions.

Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time.

Ability to work in varying, sometimes extreme, weather conditions as needed during field work.

Field activities may include walking to and amidst work and/or construction sites, climbing in and out of trenches, working around heavy equipment and working in confined spaces.

Working Conditions:

Frequent overnight travel may be required.

Overtime and/or extended work hours may be required depending on project.

Required to carry a cell phone and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.

The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including credit report for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

Over and above the minimum requirements; these are not required but advantageous for this position.

5-8 years of relevant industry experience is preferred, with proven success in cross-functional team collaboration.

Specific experience in project management, engineering, design and construction of pipeline, compressor, and meter station facilities.

Knowledge of CO2 pipeline and facility operation.

Knowledge and experience with pipeline and facility pressure testing.

Knowledge and experience with stress engineering calculations.

Knowledge and experience with Over Pressure Protection (OPP) sizing and review.

Knowledge and experience with welding procedures application, welder and procedure qualification.

Familiarity with weld inspection, visual and NDE such as RT, MT, UT, and PT.

Experience and knowledge of defect assessment and repair.

Experience in investigation and root-cause determination of pipeline and equipment failures.

Advanced proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Knowledge and/or application experience with industry standards (DOT 49 CFR 192 and 195, API, ASME B31.8, B31.8S, B31.4, B31.3, Section VIII, Section IX, all the B16’s, ANSI, NACE, NEC, MSS-SP-44, SP-75, SP-97, etc.).
