Position Summary:

The Weiss Lab at the UGA Complex Carbohydrate Research Center seeks a highly motivated Research Professional to conduct drug discovery studies in neurodegenerative disorder models. The role involves preclinical research to identify novel therapeutic targets and evaluate potential treatments, while receiving multidisciplinary training in mammalian cell culture, preclinical drug discovery, glycobiology, and glycans structural analysis.

Responsibilities

Design, conduct, and troubleshoot experiments focusing on glycosaminoglycan biosynthesis and related research objectives.

Integrate new methodologies, manage data for FAIR compliance, and mentor junior researchers.

Analyze and interpret data for publications, conference presentations, and grant submissions.

Oversee lab operations during PI absences, coordinate projects, and ensure research progress.

Maintain lab safety compliance, organize lab spaces for efficiency, and manage budget and resources.

Assist with drug screening, biochemical assays, mammalian tissue/cell culture, and lab management tasks after training.

Prepare reports, write manuscripts, and contribute to protocol optimization and method development.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Extensive hands‑on experience with mammalian cell culture and biochemical assay development.

Prior experience with human cell culture and basic molecular biology techniques.

Strong communication, organizational skills, and fluency in written and spoken English.

Ability to work collaboratively in a scientific environment.

Physical Demands
Normal laboratory activity.
