Role within the Organization
A Project Engineer will drive improvements in the Gorilla division. The focus is on the design and development of robust, first‑
ext‑generation process machine systems and products that provide significant competitive advantage to Corning’s businesses, or enable new products and product lines. The role leads and manages project teams responsible for new Gorilla® Glass process technologies, capacity expansions, and rebuilds to support overall business objectives. It requires demonstrated skills in manufacturing engineering, project management, and team leadership with comfort working across Development, Engineering, and Manufacturing organizations.

Selected candidates will be a member of a multi‑functional engineering project team, working through all stages from concept generation and development, detail design/build, system integration, and start‑up to support our manufacturing sites worldwide.

Required Skills

Project leadership from assignment through successful execution and transfer to manufacturing.

Leadership of large, highly matrixed multi‑national project teams, establishing roles, responsibilities, and competencies.

Proficient in applying core engineering concepts—thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, material science—in design, analysis, and optimization.

Work with external machine builders, system integrators, and suppliers to deliver assigned areas on‑time, on‑budget, and to meet process performance measures.

Lead and manage domestic and international project activities, status, and issues on a periodic basis to project and department leadership.

Manage new equipment design projects to ensure timely drawing completion, material sourcing, fabrication, testing, shipment, and installation/commissioning.

Experience with automated machines, integrated camera systems, part transfer, traffic control, and online metrology integration; supporting mechanical, electrical, pneumatics design and installation.

Knowledge of Rockwell, Siemens, and FANUC; AGV and material handling design desirable.

Communication of project goals, objectives, key status information, and overall impact effectively.

Conduct project meetings and document key issues, action items, and decisions.

Work across Commercial, Development, Engineering, and Manufacturing functions as needed.

Experience with 3D CAD modeling (Solid Works preferred) and simulation modules (finite element, CFD) to optimize designs and demonstrate feasibility.

Support the generation of construction drawings (2D/3D) and ensure final drawing packages reflect as‑built conditions and meet Corning standards.

Knowledge of glass processing with focus on thermal processing and heat treat; prior experience in glass melting, forming, BOD, finishing, process operations.

Experiences / Education

Minimum of a BS Engineering degree or equivalent experience.

7+ years of experience as a Project Engineer or Project Manager with a proven track record of delivering complex engineering projects involving multiple technologies, new product/process transfer to high‑volume manufacturing, and significant financial or strategic impact to the business.

Travel Requirements

Support international and domestic project activities in MCE manufacturing sites in the USA, China, Korea, and Taiwan.

Approximately 25%–50% travel for this role (mix of domestic and international).

Long‑term stays of 3–6 weeks may be required during critical project activities.

Work schedule: 50 hours per week plus travel, and periodic evening or morning conference calls.

Compensation and Benefits
Salary range: $145,578 – $200,170 (full‑time). Starting pay depends on job‑related factors such as location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
