Overview
Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) is adding a Director, Gastroenterology Service to the group at NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County. Kings County Hospital is a world‑renowned Level I Trauma Center serving 2.6 million residents of Brooklyn and Staten Island and maintains a strong academic affiliation with SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University.

Opportunity Details
In this role, the Director will collaborate closely with departmental leadership, physicians, hospitalists, and emergency medicine providers to coordinate comprehensive care for patients with complex gastrointestinal conditions. The position includes oversight of outpatient clinic operations, inpatient consult services, procedural services, and participation in GI on‑call coverage.
The Gastroenterology Director will also contribute to the academic mission of the department by providing teaching and mentorship to fellows, residents, advanced practice providers, and medical students while fostering a collaborative and high‑performing clinical team.
Key Responsibilities
Provide clinical leadership and operational oversight for the Gastroenterology division.
Ensure high standards of patient care, quality and regulatory compliance.
Collaborate with departmental leadership to support program development, strategic planning and service line growth.
Supervise and mentor physicians, advanced practice providers, fellows, and residents.
Participate in inpatient consult services, outpatient clinic coverage and GI on‑call responsibilities.
Manage and oversee quality improvement initiatives within the division.
Evaluate, diagnose and treat patients with gastrointestinal disorders.
Perform advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including oncology, surgery, radiology and primary care.
Analyze patient medical histories and diagnostic testing to determine appropriate treatment plans.
Coordinate care with referring physicians and other specialists.
Clinical Responsibilities
Provide consultation and management for complex gastrointestinal conditions.
Perform procedures such as endoscopy and other GI diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.
Interpret diagnostic studies, including imaging and specialized GI testing.
Manage urgent and emergent gastrointestinal conditions in coordination with hospital services.
Qualifications
Licensed to practice Medicine in the State of New York.
Board eligible or certified in Gastroenterology.
Wages and Benefits
Annual base salary: $406,000* based on a 40‑hour work week. Additional compensation is available for extra call or sessional/per diem hours. The estimated annual total value of the compensation package is $442,000**, and includes the base salary, 401(k) contribution and other benefits detailed below:
401(k) company contribution: 3% immediately vested, with an additional 7% after one year of service.
Annual continuing medical education reimbursement.
Generous paid time off (vacation, sick, holiday, CME days).
Medical, prescription and dental coverage with employee contributions below market rates.
Life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment coverage equal to 2x salary (up to $300,000) at no cost.
Optional voluntary life and AD&D coverage available for the employee and family.
Loan forgiveness may be available through certain state or federal programs.
Medical malpractice coverage equivalent to occurrence‑based at no cost.
