Nursing Aide (Patient Safety Attendant)

Location: Hilo, Hawaii
Salary: $18.00-$23.00 per hour
Work Shifts:
Days: 6:45am-3:15pm
Evenings: 2:45pm- 11:15pm
Nights: 10:45pm-7:15am
This is a full-time temporary position. Employment is provided by Heluna Health.
The Patient Safety Attendant (Nurse Aide) provides continuous observation and non-clinical support for high-risk patients within the acute care hospital setting. Working under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Safety Attendant ensures the safety of patients who may be at risk for falls, self-harm, or wandering due to cognitive impairment or medical conditions. This is a vital role in maintaining the safety and "Aloha" spirit of care for our Hilo community.
Essential Functions
Continuous Observation: Maintain constant visual contact with the assigned patient to ensure safety and prevent injury from falling inflicting harm to self or others. May assist the assigned Certified Nurse Aide with basic ADLs for patient (ex: assisting with bath, helping a patient)
Safety Intervention: Promptly alert nursing staff via call light or emergency alarm if the patient attempts to leave the bed, remove medical equipment, or exhibits escalating behavior.
Patient Engagement: Provide therapeutic companionship, including reading to patients or engaging in calming conversation to reduce agitation (delirium/dementia care).
Documentation: Maintain accurate "Logs", documenting patient activity and behavior at required intervals (typically every 1530 minutes).
Environment of Care: Ensure the patient's immediate environment is free of hazards and report any safety concerns to the Charge Nurse.
Supportive Care: Assist with non-clinical tasks such as tidying the bedside area or assisting the RN with positioning (within scope)
Job Qualifications
Education/Experience
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: * Entry-Level: Willing to train individuals with a strong desire to work in healthcare.
Preferred: Previous experience in a hospital, long-term care, or behavioral health setting.
Certificates/Licenses/Clearances
Must successfully pass a background check
