Process Operator

The Process Operator safely operates and adjusts production and processing equipment, follows established procedures and production schedules, and maintains accurate documentation to support consistent, high-quality manufacturing. This role performs sanitation activities, adheres to strict safety and food safety standards, and supports operations across departments as needed to meet business demands.
Responsibilities
Operate processing equipment by following established process and CIP procedures, making adjustments manually or through a central processing computer as needed.
Follow the production schedule to ensure timely and efficient completion of manufacturing activities.
Perform sanitation on equipment, infrastructure, grounds, and other assigned areas to maintain a clean and safe facility.
Record and maintain accurate written and electronic information for autolysis, separation, filtration, concentration, CIP processes, and any other required documentation.
Use basic analysis, simple calculations, and computer controls to regulate process parameters, procedures, and equipment.
Understand and follow all established safety, GMP, food safety, and plant rules, as well as general company policies.
Read and understand material safety data for chemicals or ingredients used in the process.
Follow all procedures and precautions when adding or working around chemicals or ingredients.
Notify the Supervisor promptly of equipment failures and when major process problems or variations are detected.
Communicate and interact with other employees and management personnel in a respectful and effective manner.
Learn and become proficient with all equipment in the process area.
Cover shifts as scheduled to support continuous operations.
Train and work in other departments in the facility as needed, including cleaning and filling in for various absences throughout the facility.
Perform work as assigned based on operational needs across different areas of the plant.
Perform other duties as assigned to support overall plant operations.
Essential Skills
At least 1 year of manufacturing experience.
Ability to become forklift certified and operate a forklift safely as required.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and basic written communications.
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s.
Ability to perform simple mathematical analysis using units of money, weight, volume, and distance.
Ability to follow established process and CIP procedures accurately.
Ability to follow and adhere to safety, GMP, and food safety rules and policies.
Capability to record accurate written and electronic information related to processing activities.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with packaging, packing, and general labor in a production environment.
Background in production or processing operations.
Familiarity with GMP practices in a manufacturing or food processing facility.
Comfort working with and around chemicals and processing ingredients while following proper procedures.
Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with coworkers and management.
Flexibility to learn new equipment and processes and to work in multiple departments as needed.

Work Environment
This role operates primarily on a night shift with a rotating schedule, typically from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. The work takes place in a hot production environment that requires consistent adherence to safety, GMP, and food safety standards. You will work around processing equipment, chemicals, and ingredients, and you will use computers and controls to monitor and adjust processes. The position may require working in different areas of the facility, including production, packaging, and sanitation, depending on operational needs.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cedar Rapids, IA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
