Medical Assistant
We're hiring a Medical Assistant to join our outpatient dermatology practice supporting our St. Petersburg South location. This role supports both procedural and general dermatology workflows. The Medical Assistant will be responsible for preparing procedure trays, ensuring exam rooms are properly stocked, and assisting with patient care throughout the day.
Schedule & Location
Monday-Thursday: 12:00 PM - 5:00 PM at St. Pete South
Friday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM at St. Pete North
Effective in April, Monday hours transition to 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM at St. Pete South

Responsibilities
Room patients, obtain and document intake information, and accurately record vital signs in the EMR
Support efficient patient flow throughout the clinic to maintain provider schedules
Prepare procedure trays, instruments, and equipment according to provider and clinic protocols
Assist providers during dermatologic procedures, including biopsies and excisions
Prepare, label, and route pathology and laboratory specimens to the appropriate lab based on patient insurance requirements
Administer or assist with local anesthetic per provider direction
Respond to patient questions in person and by phone, escalating clinical concerns as appropriate
Review and manage clinical task lists, nurse line messages, phone messages, faxes, and interdepartmental communications in a timely manner
Accurately document patient information and scribe provider notes in the EMR when required
Clean, calibrate, sterilize, and maintain medical equipment and instruments according to established schedules and infection control standards
Monitor medication and supply inventories, remove expired items, and maintain accurate records
Order, organize, stock, and inventory clinical supplies to ensure exam rooms and supply areas are fully stocked
Perform pathology follow-up calls to patients as directed by the provider, including communicating results, documenting outreach, and coordinating next steps when needed
Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA guidelines and patient confidentiality standards
Perform additional duties as assigned to support clinic operations
Qualifications
Ability to triage patient concerns and communicate findings appropriately to clinical staff
Knowledge of and compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, infection control, and Bloodborne Pathogen standards
Experience obtaining and documenting vital signs and preparing patients for medical and procedural appointments
Experience administering injections and assisting with clinical procedures
Working knowledge of medical terminology, CPT codes, and ICD-10 coding
Familiarity with front-office and clinical workflows, including office financial policies
Basic computer proficiency and experience using electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) systems
Ability to operate standard office equipment, including computers, scanners, copiers, and fax machines
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong focus on patient service
Fluency in English (bilingual skills a plus)
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume clinical environment
Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a clinical team
Willingness and ability to travel to satellite clinic locations as needed
Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions accurately
Licensure/Certifications/Education
Education & Experience
High school diploma or GED required
Completion of a Medical Assistant program (CMA) preferred; Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training or completion of a bachelor's degree in a pre-med or pre-Physician Assistant (Pre-PA) track also considered
1-2 years of recent experience as a Medical Assistant, CNA, or in a comparable hands-on clinical patient care role (preferred)
Previous experience in dermatology strongly preferred but not required
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to perform the following essential job functions, with or without reasonable accommodation:
Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday
Perform moderate amounts of bending, twisting, reaching, balancing, and repetitive movements
Use hands and fingers for fine motor tasks, including handling instruments and medical supplies
