The Bedford-Stuyvesant Family Health Center (BSFHC) is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that serves all of the primary health care needs of families in the heart of North and Central Brooklyn. The Dental Office Assistant collaborates with teams and provides administrative and clinical support to ensure smooth operations within the dental department. This role involves coordinating patient care, managing insurance processes, and assisting with front desk and dental assistant duties as needed.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Assist Dental Manager on day-to-day functions of the dental operations
Understand and apply medical/dental coding for insurance and billing purposes.
Submit predeterminations for major dental procedures and follow up on approvals.
Schedule appointments for complex dental treatments
Verify patient insurance coverage and benefits.
Communicate with insurance providers to resolve issues related to predeterminations.
Provide coverage at the front desk during staff absences.
Answer patient inquiries via phone regarding referrals, treatment steps, and office procedures.
Assist with select dental assistant functions as directed by Dental Manager or Dental Director
Complete administrative tasks, including filing, copying, scanning, uploading documents into patients’ charts
Deliver discharge instructions to patients as directed
Follow up and through on daily tasks
Perform other related duties assigned to support the dental department.
Education/Experience Requirements
High school diploma or GED required.
Dental Assistant Certification preferred.
Minimum of two (2) years of relevant dental or office assistant experience is preferred
Other Related Skills/Experience and Requirements
Flexible availability for scheduling needs.
Maintain strict HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality.
Proficiency in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems required.
Bilingual ability is a plus.
Strong interpersonal skills with professionalism, courtesy, and respect toward patients, families, and team members.
Ability to demonstrate patience, tact, and a positive attitude in all interactions.
Commitment to providing personalized, prompt, and respectful service to all patients and visitors.
Salary - $19/Hour
