Pyramid Safe Haven Staff Position

The Pyramid Safe Haven is a 125-bed, low-barrier shelter operated by BronxWorks for chronically street-homeless single adult men. Located in the Melrose section of the Bronx, Pyramid follows a Housing First model and provides on-site services including case management, psychiatric and medical care, substance use counseling, meals, showers, and housing placement support. Referrals are made exclusively through NYC's Street Homeless Outreach Teams. The program focuses on building trust and engagement while supporting clients in transitioning into stable, long-term housing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Pick up and deliver packages, proposals, and reports. Errands throughout the city may be required on a moment's notice
Enter client and program data into computer databases and other tracking systems
Ensure that databases are up-to-date and data is properly entered
Generate statistical reports
Gather information needed for proposals, reports and program management, including inventories and fixed asset registers
Ensure that client files contain required paperwork and information
Assist with direct service to clients including screening, registration, intake and follow-up
Update information on community resources (e.g., bulletin boards, ACES manual)
Attend community events to publicize agency service Assist in the preparation of mailings
Provide general clerical support, including filing, faxing, word processing, typing, photocopying and sorting mail
Answer telephones, relay messages and greet clients and other visitors
Collect and alphabetize staff time sheets
Attend meetings and training sessions on tracking systems
Organize special events, including program celebrations, client trips, etc.
Perform additional duties as assigned
Program Specific Responsibilities
Launder client clothing
Launder all safe haven linens weekly
Develop a system to do both client laundry and safe haven linens
Provide client care access at scheduled times
Organize client care room and laundry room
Provide new incoming clients with immediate concrete services including clothing and toiletries
Coordinate client supply rooms
Keep ongoing inventory of client supplies
Assist Administrative Assistant with data entry as needed
Monitor drop-in center for unclaimed items and confiscate items as necessary
Assign drop-in clients lockers
Complete unit inspections
Assist with client unit cleanings
Submit work orders for all required program repairs and maintenance. Follow up to ensure each request is completed in a timely manner.
Qualifications
Driver's License from the state of residence is required
Proficiency in modern business communications including personal computers, electronic mail, voicemail, facsimile and copier equipment
Proficiency in basic filing principles and standard correspondence formats
One to two years relevant experience preferred
Physical Requirements
Excellent map reading skills and ability to navigate public transportation system
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
Strong grammar skills
Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods
Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
Ability to stand, walk, or sit for long periods of time
Ability to climb five flights of stairs
Ability to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents
Ability to travel in the boroughs of New York City and its adjacent counties via public transportation
Ability to travel for a minimum of 1 mile within a reasonable amount of time and in all types of weather, including inclement weather
