Medical Assistant Technician I

This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Tri-County Community Mental Health Center, 1035 Cheraw Street, Bennettsville, SC 29512.
As the Medical Assistant Technician I, you will be under direct supervision, assist doctors and other medical staff with treatment needs of patients at Tri-County Community Mental Health Center (TCCMHC). Responsibilities for the Medical Assistant Technician:
Work closely with the physicians/medical providers rendering services to patients to include escorting them to and from the waiting room, collecting vitals (e.g., pulse, weight, height, blood pressure), completing urine drug screenings as requested, and following up on any requests of the physicians/medical providers related to continued treatment at Tri-County as well as any requests involving outside providers.
Assist with prior authorizations for medications and ensure authorizations are submitted. Assist patients with Patient Assistance Program (PAP) and Wellvista applications.
Assist medical staff with blood draws ensuring all safety guidelines for infectious disease are followed as part of the integrated primary care services of TCCMHC.
Ensure all services are provided in a culturally competent manner with respect for patients' race, gender, beliefs, and sexual orientation. Ensure all patient contacts are documented in accordance with SCDMH Quality Assurance (QA) standards. Adhere to all Federal, State, and local laws/regulations and to TCCMHC/SCDMH Corporate Compliance standards and operational regulations in performing all job duties. Comply with the South Carolina Department of Mental Health Compliance Plan and all legal responsibilities and requirements in performing their job duties. Participate in treatment team meetings.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Minimum Requirements
A high school diploma and experience or training within the specific work area.
A valid driver's license.
Additional Requirements
Routine local travel between three counties served (Chesterfield, Dillon and Marlboro).
Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time,
Lifting requirement of 20 lbs.
This position is considered essential and may be called back during crises/disasters/emergencies.
Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

Knowledge of sanitation, personal hygiene, basic health and safety practices.
Some knowledge of the human anatomy.
Ability to make accurate technical and physical observations of patients.
Ability to accurately record observations.
