Wastewater Treatment Operator
The purpose of this job is to operate a wastewater treatment plant in a training capacity. This position works under close supervision according to set procedures.
The essential functions/typical tasks include:
Learns to operate a wastewater treatment plant; takes samples; performs routine tests; helps to ensure proper plant operation; maintains records and files.
Makes regular inspection of plant and equipment to ascertain that it is always in proper operation.
Collects samples for testing; performs tests relating to plant operations.
Checks all plant equipment and biological and chemical systems for proper operation and takes necessary corrective actions.
Makes changes in plant process as necessary to improve plant efficiency.
Reads meters, gauges and dials and keeps logs of readings.
Reports needs for equipment repairs.
Back washes filters; fills chemical feeder hoppers.
Performs minor plant maintenance, grounds keeping and housekeeping duties.
Performs related work as required.
Some knowledge of wastewater treatment plant principles and operating practices; some knowledge of the operating characteristics and maintenance requirements of a wastewater treatment plant; ability to detect flaws in the operation of equipment and to determine proper remedial measures; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates; ability to keep records and prepare reports.
Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one (1) year of college.
