The Welder (2nd Craftsman), Ponca City Refinery works in the maintenance departments of various business units within the refinery. This position is responsible for performing certified welding and related metal fabrication, repair, and maintenance activities on fixed equipment and piping systems within the refinery. This role supports safe, reliable, and environmentally compliant operation of the refinery by executing high quality welds, following all safety policies and procedures, and working effectively within a unionized, team-based environment. This position requires the successful completion of an online assessment. What You'll Do
Perform welding, cutting, and fabrication on carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy piping, structural steel, pressure vessels, tanks, and related refinery equipment.
Interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, P&IDs, and weld procedures to determine job requirements and proper weld processes.
Set up and operate SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, and oxy-fuel cutting equipment in accordance with applicable welding codes and site procedures.
Prepare work surfaces and materials, including fit up, beveling, grinding, and alignment to achieve proper weld joint geometry.
Perform layout and measurement to ensure accurate fit and installation of fabricated components.
Work closely with inspectors, planners, and supervisors to complete welds in accordance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and quality requirements.
Support turnarounds, unit outages, projects, and routine maintenance, including occasional extended hours, overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
Use appropriate rigging and lifting techniques to safely move materials and equipment in coordination with other crafts.
Maintain tools, welding machines, leads, torches, and PPE in safe working condition; promptly report deficiencies.
Complete required documentation (e.g., weld maps, repair records, time reports, permits) accurately and on time.
Participate actively in safety programs, including Job Safety Analyses (JSA), pre job briefings, toolbox talks, and incident reporting.
Comply with all refinery safety, health, environmental, and process safety policies and procedures, including hot work permitting, lockout/tagout, confined space entry, line breaking, and hazard communication.
Work collaboratively with other craft personnel and operations to minimize downtime and support continuous improvement.
Will be required to work overtime when needed.
Must be able to pass two pipe welding tests prior to employment offer consisting of:
Weld 6" carbon steel pipe using the SMAW process in the 6G position
Weld 2" carbon steel pipe using the GTAW process in the 6G position
What You'll Bring

Required
Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
At least 18 years of age
Valid driver's license
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Completion of a recognized welding apprenticeship or technical program
Possess an Oklahoma Welder Certification card
3 or more years of direct welding experience in structural steel, X-ray pipe welding and blueprint reading/piping drawings
3 or more years of experience in the following welding processes: SMAW (stick) GTAW (tig) GMAW (mig) FCAW (flux core) Oxy-Acetylene Cutting
Able to use an oxy-acetylene cutting torch, arc gouger and plasma cutter
Willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to perform/comply with the following:
To climb up to 250 feet in height
To lift up to 50 pounds
To work overtime, including nights, weekends, and call-outs
To work outside in harsh weather conditions
To work in enclosed spaces, such as tanks, towers, exchanger shells, drums and misc. vessels
To work near large, hot, high-speed machines
To work around chemicals, including acids and bases
To work with petroleum products that are under high pressure and heat
To wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear and eye protection) and fall protection
To maintain your face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)
What Makes You Stand Out

Preferred
3 or more years of journey-level welding experience in a refinery or petrochemical facility.
Experience with pressure vessel and process piping welding, including various positions (1G6G) and materials.
Familiarity with API, ASME, and AWS codes and standards common to refining applications.
Ability to operate forklifts and man lifts.
Safety oriented with desire to understand and work within all refinery safety policies.
Ability to work in a team environment
The tentative start date for this position is July 2026. Relocation assistance is not available for this position. Compensation This position has a starting hourly contract rate of $49.82. Future pay increases will be based on the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
