Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN)
Women's Services provides comprehensive nursing care to patients in the Women's Services unit, including obstetrics, labor and delivery, postpartum, and neonatal care. The RN utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to ensure optimal patient outcomes and safety in accordance with hospital policies and nursing standards.
Essential Functions
Provides direct patient care in the obstetrics, labor and delivery, postpartum, and nursery units
Develops, implements, and evaluates individualized care plans for mothers and infants
Monitors fetal heart tones, vital signs, and patient status throughout labor and postpartum
Administers medications, performs procedures, and assists physicians with exams and deliveries
Educates patients and families on postpartum care, infant care, breastfeeding, and discharge instructions
Documents all assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately and promptly
Participates in emergency response situations, including neonatal resuscitation and postpartum hemorrhage
Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care and facilitate discharge planning
Maintains a safe and clean environment in compliance with infection control standards
Participates in staff training, competency assessments, and quality improvement initiatives
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations
Strong clinical knowledge in obstetric and neonatal care Ability to work in high-stress, fast-paced environments Proficient in electronic medical records (EMR) and fetal monitoring systems Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for patient and family interactions Ability to prioritize tasks and respond quickly to emergencies Knowledge of infection control practices and safety protocols Demonstrates professionalism, empathy, and patient-centered care
Qualifications
Education: Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred License/Certification: Current state RN license or compact state equivalent required Basic Life Support (BLS) as required per facility policy Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) as required per facility policy Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) as required per facility policy Fetal Monitoring Certification as required per facility policy Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) as required per facility policy Experience: Minimum of six (6) months of obstetrical nursing experience in an acute care setting preferred
