Prep Technician
The Prep Technician prepares flatbeds, utility boxes, and custom components on diesel pickup trucks for painting. This role focuses on sanding, masking, taping, and general paint preparation, with occasional mechanical assembly and disassembly of parts. The position is hands-on and physically active, supporting high-quality finishes before items move into the paint booth.
Responsibilities
Prepare flatbeds, utility boxes, and related components for painting by sanding, masking, and taping surfaces.
Use power sanders and hand tools to sand metal surfaces to the required finish.
Mask and tape off areas that should not be painted, ensuring clean lines and proper coverage.
Perform general labor tasks related to paint preparation, primarily sanding boxes and flatbeds.
Assist with mechanical assembly and disassembly of small and large parts prior to prepping metal for paint.
Work underneath trucks as needed to access and prepare components for painting.
Support custom work on diesel pickup trucks by preparing parts and surfaces according to specifications.
Follow safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment at all times.
Maintain a clean and organized work area within the auto shop environment.
Collaborate with team members and follow instructions to meet production schedules and quality standards.
Essential Skills
12 years minimum experience in paint preparation or a closely related role.
Proficiency in sanding, surface prep, taping, and masking for paint applications.
Experience using power sanders and related paint prep tools.
Ability to perform mechanical assembly and disassembly of small and large parts prior to prepping metal.
Capability to work under trucks and in varied positions to reach all necessary surfaces.
Strong attention to detail to ensure surfaces are properly prepped for paint.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
Commitment to following safety guidelines and consistently using personal protective equipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working in an auto body, automotive, or industrial paint prep environment.
Familiarity with paint booths and general painting processes.
Ability to learn new tasks quickly and adapt to cross-training opportunities.
Basic mechanical aptitude for working with truck bodies and related components.

The role is based in an auto shop environment that is non-climate-controlled, fast-paced, and can be dusty. Work may require going outdoors as needed to complete tasks on vehicles and equipment. You will regularly work around trucks, flatbeds, and utility boxes, using power sanders and other tools. Personal protective equipment is required, including protective glasses, knee pads, steel-toe boots, a hard hat, and gloves. The position involves physical activity, including standing for extended periods, working under trucks, and handling parts of various sizes.

Pay and Benefits
