The Montana Veterans' Home is a Medicare/Medicaid and Veterans' Administration certified facility that has been providing services to veterans since 1896. Admission is for honorably discharged veterans who qualify for skilled/intermediate nursing care or domiciliary self-care living. Spouses of veterans may be admitted on a space-available basis. This position is a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA). The CNA assists residents with daily living activities. Other responsibilities include: measuring and recording residents' vital signs such as temperature, blood pressure, weight, pulse and respiratory rate; assisting residents with daily living activities such as eating, personal hygiene, and dressing; and providing compassionate support to residents/family members and encouraging open communication.
Essential Functions (Major Duties or Responsibilities):
Measures and records residents' vital signs such as temperature, blood pressure, weight, pulse and respiratory rate.
Assists residents with daily living activities such as eating, personal hygiene, and dressing.
Provides compassionate support to residents/family members and encourages open communication.
Measures input and output, and collect specimens for testing.
Answers call light for assistance and responds to residents' needs.
Assists staff in providing resident care and responds to emergencies.
Observes residents' condition or behavior and reports changes to nurse.
Changes linens, make beds, cleans residents rooms, bathrooms, or other resident areas.
Documentation (5%)
Maintains records of CNA care provided to each resident.
Transcribes codes corresponding to resident care.
Other Duties as Assigned (5%)
Orients new residents and new CNA staff.
Completes other nursing care tasks as requested.
Physical and Environmental Demands: Work is of medium demand, that involves lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling; stooping; twisting and extensive standing. Lift 50# occasionally; Lift 15-20# frequently; Push/pull 60# occasionally/ Reach forward and below frequently. Must have the ability to transfer residents safely. Must be able to effectively communicate with patients. May be exposed to blood borne pathogens. May have to work with uncooperative residents at times.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Behaviors): Required for the first day of work:
Knowledge of the aging process and basic anatomy.
Knowledge of caregiver role and infection controls.
Knowledge of residents' rights and confidentiality principles.
Written and oral communication skills.
Ability to provide residents with quality care.
Ability to demonstrate patience and empathy.
Ability to observe and pay attention to details.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience): High School Diploma or equivalent. Montana CNA certification. Two years CNA experience. Other equivalent combinations of directly related education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Salary: $25.13-25.13 Hourly
