Substitute/As-needed Dental Assistant
The University of South Dakota Department of Dental Hygiene is now accepting applications for a substitute/as-needed Dental Assistant located in the USD Sioux Falls Dental Clinic. Additionally, we are seeking a temporary dental assistant to cover a 3-month period starting December 2024 or January 2025. The 3-month position is Mondays through Thursdays. Following the 3-month period, this position will transition to an as-needed, substitute role.
Duties include: Assists the dentist or dental hygienist by seating patients, participating in dentistry techniques by handling the dentist instrument and mixing compounds for tooth repair and maintaining instruments and dental area in a sanitary manner.
1. Assists dentists to provide dental care to patients.
a. Passes instruments.
b. Mixes treatment.
c. Fills materials.
2. Disinfects the dental operatory and sterilizes equipment to ensure a sanitary dental environment.
3. Positions and exposes intraoral and extraoral dental radiographs to develop and produce quality X-rays.
4. Schedules, records, and controls patient visits to ensure accurate dental records for the patients.
5. Participates in the provision of oral health care by providing toothbrushing and flossing instructions and techniques to patients and staff to ensure adequate dental care for patients.
6. Assist clinic director as needed.
The successful candidate must be a licensed dental assistant in the State of South Dakota.
