Machinist (RRAD)
Bowhead is seeking a Machinist to join our team for our proposal effort the Red River Army Depot Supplemental Labor contract. The work is located at Red River Army Depot in Texarkana, TX. The Machinist will provide fabrication and repair services such as machining and machine programming in accordance with applicable standards. These services include the manufacture and repair of routine, complex, and non-routine parts and items of equipment from raw stock of different metals, metal alloys, and other materials.
Responsibilities
Serves as automotive machinist. Machines and grinds engine parts such as crankshafts, camshafts, flywheel and blocks, for combat, general purpose and special support vehicles.
Makes initial serviceability determination of wide range of components for gasoline, multi-fuel and diesel engines used in combat, general purpose or other diesel-powered equipment. Determines if economically repairable should be salvaged or is useable as is by appropriate procedures such as precision gauging of critical dimensions, and pressure tests for cracks; re-assembles components.
As automotive machinist, determines work procedures, selects proper tools, lays out work and operates a variety of machines such as boring bar machine, bench lathes, drill presses, electric gear lathes, connecting rod, boring and grinding machine, camshaft line boring machine, and crankshaft grinders.
Works with a variety of metals such as steel, cast iron, brass, copper and aluminum. Uses common tools of the trade such as precision gauges (micrometers, dial indicators, and feeler gauges), test stands, and fixtures to ensure dimensional tolerances required by specifications of applicable TM's, DMWR's, MWO's, TB, drawing and other Department of the Army publications.
Makes initial serviceability determination regarding a full variety of components and parts for gasoline, multi-fuel and diesel engines such as blocks, camshafts, tappets, rocker army assemblies, cylinders, manifolds, pulley and damper assemblies, gear sets and clutch disks. Dimensional tolerances for machine operations and serviceability determinations vary from.0001 through.011. in addition to precision measuring tools and equipment used to check dimensions, utilizes diagnostic equipment to locate cracks and leaks.
Determines whether parts and components are useable as is, should be salvaged, or are economically repairable.
Instructs lower grade workers and performs, as required, the assembly of items such as rocker-arm. assemblies, manifolds, pulley and damper assemblies, timing gears; the installation of freezing plugs, studs, bushings and bearings; and the fitting of pistons to cylinders.
Performs Other Duties as assigned
This is a proposal effort pay to be determined upon award of contract.
Qualifications
Experience
High school diploma or equivalent
Technical/trade school certification or equivalent apprenticeship training
Five years (5) years machining experience or comparable training with certification
Qualifications
Experience with supply and property procedures
Thorough knowledge of mechanical machinery
Working knowledge of corrosion control technology
Working knowledge of hazardous materials and waste management
Ability to use coolants, cutting and lubricating liquids
The flexibility to work occasional non-duty hours or on weekends to support mission requirements
Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
Ability to understand, speak, read, and write the English language.
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees, Government Representative, and outside contacts.
Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team.
Valid driver's license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record.
Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
Machinist is required to be on-site.
Work areas consist of non-office such as maintenance/production industrial facilities.
Requires wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) which includes safety glasses, protective-toe footwear, gloves, and hearing protection as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Performs journeyman oversight of lower grade workers performing measurement and examination of parts and units to determine serviceability, and the cleaning, repair, and assembly of items.
Monitor/provide effective performance feedback through employee recognition, coaching, and disciplinary action.
Ensures flow of communication from upper management to employees and vice versa.

Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically
Security Clearance Requirements: Must be able to maintain a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
