About the Positions:
Wastewater Collections Operator I:
The entry level position which performs the operation, maintenance, cleaning, inspection, preventative maintenance, repair, and construction of City's Wastewater Collection Infrastructure. Operates a variety of heavy equipment such as a combination sewer truck. This includes all aspects of the operation and maintenance of 1,500+ miles of sewer pipe, over 40 sewer lift stations and 5 large pump stations, in addition to all mechanical maintenance aspects of related equipment.
Wastewater Collections Operator II:
Performs the operation, maintenance, cleaning, inspection, preventative maintenance, repair, and construction of City's Wastewater Collection Infrastructure. Operates a variety of heavy equipment such as a combination sewer truck. This includes all aspects of the operation and maintenance of 1,500+ miles of sewer pipe, over 40 sewer lift stations and 5 large pump stations, in addition to all mechanical maintenance aspects of related equipment.
Applicants that do not meet all the minimum requirements for the Wastewater Collections Operator II position may be considered for an underfill as a Wastewater Collections Operator I, depending on applicant qualifications. If the position is underfilled, the salary offered would be commensurate with the lower level classification. The minimum requirements for the underfill position are listed below in the minimum qualifications section.
Anticipated starting salary for the Wastewater Collections Operator I (Underfill) position may be up to mid-point depending on candidate's experience and internal equity. The full salary range is $28.84 - $38.95/hour and mid-point for this position is $33.88/hour.
Anticipated starting salary for the Wastewater Collections Operator II position may be up to mid-point depending on candidate's experience and internal equity. The full salary range is $33.37 - $45.09/hour and mid-point for this position is $39.22/hour.

$28.84 - $38.95/hour
Education and Experience:
There is no experience required for this position.
A High School diploma or General Education Development (GED) equivalent.
Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements:
Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona. Note: Graduated Driver's Licenses are considered restricted.
Must obtain and maintain within six months of hire or promotion a Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with tanker endorsement. Must maintain a valid CDL with appropriate endorsements and will be subject to unannounced alcohol and drug testing as required by law.
Must possess and maintain a valid DOT Medical Certification Card within 6 months of hire or promotion date.
Must possess within 12 months of hire or promotion and maintain a Grade 1 operator certification from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality within the discipline of Wastewater Collection.
Must obtain within six months of hire or promotion certification as a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) user.
Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.
Wastewater Collections Operator II (Grade 2 Operator Certification required)
Minimum Qualifications
$33.37 - $45.09/hour
Education and Experience:
A High School diploma or General Education Development (GED) equivalent.
Three years of experience in the operation and maintenance of large wastewater collection systems that includes multiple pump stations, heavy duty pump maintenance, equipment related to odor mitigation systems, combination hydro/jetter cleaning truck and associated equipment.
Preferred:
Experience in pump operations and chemical feed.
Experience in the operation and maintenance of sewer force main systems that include sophisticated pumping arrangements and odor control.
Experience with advanced computerized systems utilized in wastewater collection works.
Experience in mechanical and electrical trouble shooting.
Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements:
Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.
This position requires satisfactory results of a pre-employment drug screen and a pre-employment physical that includes a pulmonary/respiratory exam.
Must possess upon hire or promotion and maintain a Grade 2 operator certification from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality within the discipline of Wastewater Collection.
Must obtain and maintain within six months of hire or promotion a Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with tanker endorsement. Must maintain a valid CDL with appropriate endorsements and will be subject to unannounced alcohol and drug testing as required by law.
