Election Representative (Extra Help)
Orange County Registrar of Voters (ROV) will begin accepting applications for the Election Representative (Extra Help) position on Friday, April 24, 2026, this recruitment will be posted for a minimum of five (5) business days and will remain open on a continuous basis until the needs of the Agency are met. These are Extra Help temporary/seasonal positions (these are NOT permanent positions). These positions will often require overtime, both in the evenings and on weekends.
The Registrar of Voters, a nationally recognized and award-winning agency, is responsible for conducting elections, verifying petitions and maintaining voter records in the County of Orange, the fifth largest voting jurisdiction in the United States with 1.9 million active registered voters. The department receives funding from the County's General Fund and periodic reimbursement from the federal government, the State of California and local jurisdictions. The Registrar of Voters' staff includes 54 full-time employees, and numerous extra help employees who support various election related positions representing the broad spectrum of Orange County's population. The department is responsible for all components of election management.

The Registrar of Voters is seeking to fill Election Representative/Extra Help vacancies to support the upcoming June 2026 Primary Election. These positions may require overtime both in the evenings and weekends, job duties may include:
Communicating with voters, employees, and volunteers via phone and email
Providing information related to Vote Center locations, drop box locations, election programs
Answering general election questions from the public
Using a keyboard to enter data into worksheets and/or database
Reviewing documents for completeness and accuracy
Providing support to Community Outreach, Candidate and Voter Services and Election Service staff
Other duties as assigned
GIS (Geographic Information Systems)/Mapping Department Election Representatives: Assist our GIS staff with data maintenance related to the precinct district database. This position will receive full training and work with department staff processing the following types of work:
GIS/Mapping
Use and help configure ESRI Survey123 Application
Train on and use mapping tools
Data proofing
Data entry of new addresses
Research addresses verification
Other duties as assigned
The ideal candidate will have experience in Customer Service ideally performed in a Call Center environment in addition to the following:

Physical, Mental, and Environmental Requirements
Physical Conditions: Vision sufficient to read standard text, fine print and various handwritings and to view a computer monitor; speak and hear well enough to communicate clearly and understandably in person and over the phone; independent body mobility sufficient to stand, sit, walk, stoop and bend routinely to perform daily tasks; ability to sit for prolonged period of time; manual dexterity to use hands, arms and shoulders repetitively to operate a keyboard and use other office equipment such as a stapler, telephone and photocopy machine.
Mental Conditions: Possess the ability to independently reason logically to reach conclusions and decisions; possess the ability to remain calm and appropriately focused on different interpersonal situations.
Environmental Conditions: Ability to work in an office environment and work with changing priorities, deadlines, and multiple assignments concurrently.
Special Requirements
All candidates considered for this position will be required to successfully pass a background check consisting of employment history, professional references, and criminal check. Possession of a valid California drivers' license, Class C, and a clean driving record while employed in this classification might be required by the date of appointment. A driving records check consisting of a Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) check will be conducted to verify the clean driving record.

After the initial screening, qualified candidates will be referred to the next step and notified of all further procedures applicable to their status in this competition.
Online Self-Administered Examination | (Weighted 100%) Applicants who meet both the minimum and desirable qualifications will be invited to participate in an on-line, selfadministered assessment. Please note that part of this exam will be timed. Candidates will be notified via email of this process. Only the most successful candidates will be referred to the next step in the recruitment process.
Based on the Department's needs, the selection procedure listed above may be modified. All candidates will be notified of any changes in the selection procedure.
Eligible List
Once all assessments have been completed, the Registrar of Voters Administrative Services Department will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future extra help vacancies.
