Maintenance Technician - Pipe Fitter/Welder

The Maintenance Technician - Pipe Fitter/Welder is responsible for the safe, efficient, and effective operation of equipment in VVF's operations.
Job Duties:
Performs a wide variety of service work in one or more specialized maintenance area such as electrical, mechanical, hydraulics, carpentry, or machine servicing, etc.
Uses gas and electric welding equipment to fabricate, replace, repair and modify tooling machinery and process equipment; work involves welding in all positions.
Repairs vessels, tanks, high pressure piping and process machinery by means of gas and electric welding techniques and weld in all positions, using various currents, voltages, alloy rod and fluxes
Alters or builds tooling or equipment using machine parts; clamps assembled parts and welds in place for final machining. Makes up and assembles threaded pipe as required and installs hangers or braces.
Performs maintenance welding involving building or equipment repairs; brazed sheet metals projects; lead or other metal work for welding, brazing or burning
Uses industrial trucks, hoists and other devices, which may be necessary to move, relocate, rig, install or remove equipment. Assembles and disassembles necessary scaffolding.
Measures, lays-out, and fabricates and insulates piping, fittings, steam tracing, lines, hoses, and tubing
Pump removal and rough in pump alignment
Performs general manual labor work
Performs all duties in a safe manner, utilizing safety practices and procedures required by VVF and applicable law (e.g. OSHA, etc.), personal protective equipment, and reporting procedures. Reviews all pertinent safety material before conducting new assignments.
Monitors for, and reports unusual occurrences to management
Maintains all equipment and facilities in a clean, orderly and operating condition
Trains other employees as required
Assists Operations and Maintenance as required
Completes work orders as required
Must maintain skills training as required by VVF, regulations and permits
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management. No task or duty is exclusive to a classification or skillset. An employee working in this classification is expected to perform various duties and tasks that traditionally may not have been assigned under a more narrow job classification.
Basic Minimum Requirements:
Authorized to work in the United States
High School Diploma or equivalent
Must have three (3) years on-the-job experience pipefitting and welding within the last five (5) years
Experience in TIG and Stick welding
Experience working with steel, stainless steel and other metals
Proficient in fixture preparation and distortion control
Experience fabricating and installing piping and equipment as specified on drawings.
Working knowledge of pipe insulation.
Ability to fit and connect process piping by means of welding, sweating, gluing, bolting, threading, clamping, rigging, etc.
Able to express basic electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic principles
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, hydraulic schematics and technical manuals
Experience working with Hydraulic Systems, Cylinders, Pumps, Valves, Motors, steam tracing etc
Must have basic standard and metric hand tools (e.g. sockets, wrenches, pliers, channel locks, wire cutters)
Must be able to work any shift and overtime as required
Preferred Qualifications:
Basic knowledge of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
Experience working with /welding aluminum and exotic metals
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, technical drawings, hydraulic schematics and technical manuals
Experience working with Mechanical Components and systems, Motor, Gearbox, Bearing, Driveshaft, Sprockets, and Roller chains etc.
Physical Requirements:
Requires sufficient physical ability to walk, stand, sit, and climb stairs and ladders; to frequently bend, squat, crouch, kneel, twist, and make other movements in the performance of daily activities; handling/fingering and using hand and power/pneumatic tools; to reach above shoulders and outward, and lift, carry, push and/or pull moderate amounts of weight
Work is performed in an internal and external plant environment; confined space entry required; exposure to noise, dust, and odors; all types of weather and temperature conditions; frequently at heights
