Phlebotomist

The primary role of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.
Responsibilities

Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge specimens according to established procedures.
Record maintenance data and perform decontamination tasks.
Update patient information accurately.
Collect and store specimens following established procedures.
Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures, such as urine or fecal collection, clearly and courteously.
Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
Understand and follow all physicians' orders.
Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
Package specimens for transport and store specimen samples according to the required temperature.
Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label them, and follow procedures to maintain specimen integrity for transport.
Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
Attend annual department training sessions.
Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Essential Skills

Phlebotomy skills, including adult draws and patient care.
Experience in blood draw, venipuncture, specimen collection, and specimen processing.
Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, if required.
Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
High School Diploma or GED.
0-2 years of experience in a related field.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience in geriatrics and health care.
Effective communication skills for patient interaction.
Work Environment

The work environment includes a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. Compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations is mandatory. The role requires attendance at annual department training sessions.
Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Asheville, NC.
Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
