Medical Office Assistant

Works under the supervision of the Office Manager, Office Supervisor, and/or Family Health Center Manager. The Medical Office Assistant's primary job function is to perform clerical duties associated with registration of patients, tracking, logging patient visits and assures all managed care patients receive proper pre-certification/authorization prior to their appointment. Communicates effectively with others. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required
Licensure: BLS within 90 days of hire required.
Experience: Medical office and computer experience preferred.
Job Specific Duties and Performance Expectations:
1. Performs routine registration of patientensuring patient information is updated including address changes and insurance updates.
2. Verifies insurance eligibility by obtaining copies of patients' insurance cardsensuring the accuracy of the registration forms.
3. Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of all computer fields (i.e., demographics, insurance screen, etc.), and insurance companies.
4. Answers multi-line phones and schedules appointments.
5. Collects patient payments and maintains a balanced cash drawer.
6. Schedules referrals and outpatient testing/procedures.
7. Registers new patients from referrals and contacts patients' referring providers with appointment.
8. Verifies insurance benefits and obtains proper authorization and certification for appointments and procedures.
9. Registers inpatients from billing census sheets.
10. Collaborates with the Physician Billing Department to resolve billing issues.
11. Assists in the coordination of care for the patient in collaboration with other members of the health care team to meet the health care needs of the patient.
