Transit Vehicle Operator Fort Bragg
Mendocino Transit Authority (MTA) has provided public transit services for Mendocino County since 1976. MTA's service area encompasses about 2,800 square miles and provides a diverse system of long distance, commute and local fixed routes, plus two Dial-A-Rides and one Flex Route. MTA serves a population of nearly 90,000; our vehicles travel more than 881,000 miles per year. Currently MTA operates twelve fixed bus routes, connecting the Mendocino Coast, the Inland valleys, towns and communities to Ukiah, the county seat and largest of the four incorporated cities. Two routes connect most of Mendocino County with the city of Santa Rosa in Sonoma County. Here passengers can make easy daily connections for travel to the Bay Area and beyond. MTA also provides Dial-A-Ride services in Ukiah and Fort Bragg and one flex route, the Local 9 PM Service in Ukiah. Mendocino Transit Authority provides daily connections with Sonoma County Transit, Santa Rosa City Bus, AMTRAK, and Golden Gate Transit for regional service to Marin and San Francisco Counties in Santa Rosa. MTA also provides daily connections with the Sonoma County Airport Express at the Sonoma County Airport for service to and from the Bay Area airports. In Ukiah, MTA connects with Lake Transit service to and from Lake County Monday thru Saturdays. MTA was established in 1976 under a joint powers agency agreement between, the County of Mendocino, the City of Fort Bragg, the City of Point Arena, the City of Ukiah and the City of Willits. Our mission is to provide safe, courteous, reliable, affordable and carbon-neutral transportation services.

PAID Vacation, Paid Holidays & Sick Leave NO EXPERIENCE Necessary The Transit Vehicle Operator (TVO) is responsible for safely operating a transit motor vehicle and providing reliable and efficient public transportation. SUMMARY OF DUTIES Under the general direction of the Operations Supervisor and the direction of a Dispatcher, Transit Vehicle Operators:: Drives transit vehicles as assigned. Operates heavy-duty, medium-duty, or small buses along a fixed route while adhering to a timetable or operate a paratransit bus providing curb-to-curb (Dial-A-Ride) service. Collects fares, sell passes and provide information and assistance to passengers. This is a FULL-TIME position. Hours of operation: 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM, including weekends and holidays, for shifts as required.
Position Requirements - REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS: Ability to read maps and knowledge of geographical area, fare zones, routes, schedules, bus stops, and transfer points. Ability to interact with the public and an ability to use courtesy, tact, and good judgment and ability to maintain a calm, diplomatic, and tactful attitude in dealing with difficult situations. Ability to react to emergencies by following established procedures and remaining calm and self-assured. Ability to work cooperatively with others, be respectful of co-workers, promote teamwork. Work and communicate both constructively and effectively with Transportation Supervisors, Dispatchers, and other Transit Vehicle Operators. Ability to interpret oral and written communications and accurately and legibly complete reports in English. Ability to perform simple addition and subtraction, calculate correct fares, and calculate correct change when selling punch passes and tickets. Ability to communicate with an Operations Manager and Operations Supervisor. Ability to sit for extended periods of time; drive for extended periods of time; reach, rotate at waist, bend, stretch. Other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS Possession of California Class C Driver's License MUST CURRENTLY RESIDE IN GREATER FORT BRAGG AREA Successful completion of a California Department of Transportation Class B Drivers Physical DMV Class B licensing requirements. Minimum six years of legal and safe driving records. Possession of a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent. Ability to meet Real ID requirements at DMV. (Please refer todmv.ca.govfor further information).
QUALIFICATIONS POST-TRAINING Possession of a California Commercial Driver's License with the required Endorsements (passenger and air brake) and any other licenses required to operate heavy-duty, medium-duty, small buses, and paratransit buses. Knowledge of proper two-way radio etiquette, and ability to communicate with supervisors, dispatchers, and other Transit Vehicle Operators using a two-way radio and cellular device. Knowledge of MTA Operating Policies and Procedures, and ability to implement policies in a calm and professional manner. Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance routines, and the ability to detect and report obvious or suspected mechanical and maintenance problems on the vehicle.
