Medical Assistant - Float

Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio is seeking mission-minded Associates to join us as a full-time (37.5 hours per week) Medical Assistant (Float) to serve our patients at our North Columbus Health Center, and Mansfield Health Center, and Athens Health Center.
The Medical Assistant will provide exceptional patient care, adhering to the policies of PPGOH and maintaining a courteous and professional demeanor. The Medical Assistant will provide comprehensive health education, assist in various medical procedures, and perform essential administrative tasks. Must ensure superior patient care and outstanding customer service, focusing on direct services in family planning, and, when assigned, abortion services. This position requires a strong commitment to quality healthcare, a passion for excellent customer service, and the ability to interact positively with clients both in person and over the phone.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Medical Waste Processing: Efficient in handling and disposing of both chemical and non-chemical medical waste.
Patient Vital Signs: Accurately collect and record patient vital signs as part of pre-operative preparation.
Venipuncture and Lab Tests: Skilled in performing venipuncture and conducting lab tests (urinalysis, injectables) under physician guidance.
Empathy and Patient Interaction: High-level empathy skills for interacting with patients who may be experiencing pain or emotional stress.
Room Preparation: Ensure cleanliness and readiness of exam rooms.
Assisting During Examinations/Procedures: Provide support to physicians during patient examinations.
Patient Instruction: Aid in educating patients about medications and procedures, supplementing the guidance of physicians, DON, and RNs.
Medical Terminology: Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology relevant to surgical procedures.
Administrative Duties:
Patient Navigation and Referrals: Respond to patient inquiries and have knowledge of referral resources.
Appointment Scheduling: Organize and schedule patient appointments.
Medical History Management: Update and review patient medical histories.
Precepting New Hires: Support training duties for new staff, particularly in OR and lab workflow.
Data Entry Accuracy: Detail-oriented approach to accurately entering patient data in charts.
Insurance Knowledge: Basic understanding of insurance processes related to lab tests and submissions.
Confidentiality and Reporting: Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to mandatory reporting regulations specific to Ohio.
Qualifications
Proven experience as a Medical Assistant, or relevant qualifications.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Certification in Medical Assisting, if required by state law.
Familiarity with electronic medical records and healthcare software.
Education and/or Experience
Certified Medical Assistant certification required.
Experience in a healthcare setting desirable.
Family planning experience preferred.
