The shop pipe alloy welder uses hand welding, flame cutting, hand soldering, or brazing equipment to weld, repair or join metal pipe or structural components or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products
Essential Functions:
Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions
Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits
Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers
Examine work pieces for defects and measure with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications
Recognize, set up and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment
Operate welding machines
Lay out, fits and welds fabricated, cast, and forged components to assemble structural forms, such as tanks, pressure vessels, furnace shells, and within all heavy construction
Welds metal components together to fabricate or repair products
Perform daily maintenance and safety checks
Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting company's safety culture
Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned
Education and Experience Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED required
At least 3 years' experience as a welder
Ability to pass a combo weld test (stick & tig)
Skills / Key Competencies:
Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods
Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
Knowledge of arithmetic
Knowledge of welding and metallurgy (SMAW, FCAW, GTAW, GMAW, SAW)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Exercise discretion and independent judgement when handling day to day information
Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities
Ability to work cooperatively across all levels delivering on commitments
results oriented
Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
Ability to work under pressure to meet department targets and deadlines
Ability to work non-routine hours, when necessary
Ability and willingness to travel as required
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas
Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
Ability to operate job related tools
Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers
Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help
