This is an opportunity to play a critical role in shaping the technology that supports Registered Investment Advisors and the clients they serve. As a senior architecture leader within Advisor Services Technology, you will influence enterprise-scale platforms, guide multiple engineering teams, and help deliver secure, scalable, and resilient solutions. You will partner closely with business and product leaders to translate strategy into architecture that enables innovation while managing risk. This role offers the chance to lead with impact, elevate engineering practices, and help define the future of advisor-facing technology at Schwab.

What you have

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Technical Leadership

Define and evolve target-state application architectures aligned to business priorities and technology roadmaps

Establish and maintain architectural patterns, standards, and guidelines that support scalable, high-quality solutions

Partner with business and product leaders to guide technical decisions, manage risk, and enable secure application design

Provide technical leadership and mentorship to architects, tech leads, and engineering teams across domains

Proactively identify architectural gaps and translate them into actionable requirements and improvement initiatives

Lead impact analysis and architecture strategies for major initiatives such as cloud adoption, API expansion, testing modernization, and platform enhancements

Operational Excellence & Governance

Provide architectural governance and oversight to ensure alignment with enterprise standards and technology guidelines

Influence secure coding practices and participate in application security design reviews and assessments

Offer consultative guidance on design decisions, development approaches, and technology tradeoffs

Design and implement processes to track application security remediation, including meaningful metrics and risk reporting for leadership

Enterprise Collaboration & Influence

Contribute to the development and adoption of enterprise architecture principles and shared technology standards

Support the communication, education, and enablement of architectural best practices across Schwab Technology Services

Build strong, inclusive partnerships across engineering, security, product, and business teams

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience

10+ years of experience in software engineering, application architecture, or related technical leadership roles

Demonstrated ability to define and guide application architecture for complex, enterprise-scale systems

Proven experience influencing secure, scalable, and resilient software design across multiple teams

Strong capability to translate business needs into technical strategies, frameworks, and architectural decisions

Experience guiding governance practices related to application security, reliability, and operational risk

Ability to lead through influence in a highly collaborative, matrixed environment

Preferred Qualifications

Experience shaping enterprise standards, policies, or frameworks that improve engineering efficiency and quality

Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders

Experience using data and insights to guide architectural decisions and technology strategy

Background in cloud-based architectures, distributed systems, and API-driven platforms

Demonstrated success fostering a culture of learning, innovation, and continuous improvement

Comfort presenting recommendations and influencing decision-making at senior and executive levels

Strong written communication skills for architectural documentation, standards, and strategy narratives

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
