BRENTWOOD SCHOOL
Librarian, Middle School
Brentwood School, a vibrant and diverse K-12 independent school, is looking for a full-time Librarian beginning August 2025 for the East Campus Library, serving 7-12th grades. The new Librarian will work with the Head Librarian and Library Assistant in a vibrant and integrated library program. The library is an energetic space for learning and activity, housing approximately 15,000 volumes, 45 computers, and holding subscriptions to a variety of magazines and databases.
Requirements and Qualifications
MLS or Library Media Teacher Credential (or equivalent)
Teaching or School Library experience
Familiarity with Educational Technology
A love of YA fiction
An enthusiasm for working with middle school students
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Collaborate with middle school teachers on integrating best research practices into the curriculum
Developing a media literacy scope and sequence that can be delivered as either stand‑alone lessons or integrated into the core curriculum
Continuing to curate the middle school catalog
Developing a robust LibGuide to house digital resources
Host book clubs and reading challenges
Create book displays
Teach lessons on digital tools, including how to thoughtfully use generative AI
Serve as the leader of the AI middle school task force
Consistently attend history and English department meetings
Collaborate with the lower school and upper school librarians to establish a scope and sequence for research and media literacy skills
Create space and time in the library for studying and student life activities
Develop programming to bring more students into the space
Oversee the work of the library assistant
Collaborate with the learning specialist on student support plans
Additional duties will include:
Serving as an advisor to a small group of 7th or 8th-grade students
Attending faculty meetings
Supervising as needed
In addition, a candidate should possess the following personal qualities:

While being vaccinated for COVID-19 is not required, it is strongly recommended.
COMPENSATION
Brentwood School's diverse and talented faculty ranges widely in experience level, from those new to teaching to veterans who are experts in their respective disciplines with 30+ years of experience. Our salary range, of $82,000 to $135,000, includes all levels of experience. Salaries are determined based on years of experience, education, full- or part-time status, and number of months worked per school year. Salary ranges do not include benefits i.e. 403b retirement matching, paid lunchtime, free breakfast and lunch, free parking, subsidy toward medical, dental, vision, life/AD&D plans, and generous time off. The pay range is an estimate and is not guaranteed. If hired, your actual base salary will be determined by your education, experience, and schedule.
